This press release just got sent out: MacFarlane-Chang, LLC purchases remaining interest from SE Development LLC Washington, D.C. (October 21, 2009) - D.C. United announced today that MacFarlane-Chang, LLC has purchased, from SE Development LLC, its remaining interest in MacFarlane-Chang DC Soccer, LLC. The sale leaves all shares of D.C. United under the control of MacFarlane-Chang, LLC of which Will Chang is Chairman. The purchase is a part of a strategic reorganization of team ownership. Previously, a Chang owned company purchased MacFarlane Partners’ interest in the club on May 20, 2009. MacFarlane Chang DC Soccer, LLC originally bought the operating rights to D.C. United in January 2007 from the Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG).
As I remember you made a prediction that this would happen a few days ago. Wow. A BigSoccer prediction that actually happened.
I believe that was Fat Bastard. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1040630&page=108 scroll to the bottom.
Who is this fatbastard who is so wise in the ways of DC United & so well informed. He must be your bartender.
"Will Chang now controls 100 percent of D.C. United after purchasing the very small remaining share held by a group led by Brian Davis and Christian Laettner , former Duke basketball players who are involved in real estate development these days" http://blog.washingtonpost.com/soccerinsider/ looks like we're finally Duke free!!
Who doesn't want unbridled power? Look at Danny! Maybe Will wants to avoid arguments when he changes our jersey to something like:
I thought Kevin Payne was a (small) partial owner? Does he have a stake in the MacFarlane-Chang group, or is he just not an owner anymore?
Was about to ask this. Does this mean there is real housecleaning? If KP is no longer an owner, does that explain his cranky attitude at the tailgate a few weeks ago?
I could be wrong (and usually am), but I thought there was discussion of it around the time of the PG County debacle.
a quick google search returns his LinkedIn profile as saying "Owner at D.C. United" who knows for real though. I could have sworn reading he had some minor ownership stake at some point, but can't find any articles that mention it.
Yeah, I thought he had a minority ownership stake in the beginning, but I thought that had all gone away when Anschutz took over.
For reasons I outlined months ago, I'm worried about this. I don't hate Duke nearly as much as I did years ago and many negative feelings have been directed towards the coaches, players and training staff. Negativity towards Chang and the rest of the front office is building. What if Vinny Cerrato tried to buy in to offset things?
I don't believe any of this. As far as I know, the announcement of the sale to Warburg-Pincus is just days away. One small complication: Pincus just died. Still, I look forward to that announcement and then to the unveiling of Richard Gough as our new coach.
