From the athletic, something that sounds like it could have been written about us... The flight home must have been long and quiet as Dyche contemplated the achievement of capitulating to a team who didn’t have a shot on target. I am optimistic that wont be said about us, at least this year.
Sports Business Journal Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott has backed D.C. United’s proposal to build a 12,000-seat stadium and academy at Carroll Park as part of a $300M+ project. The venue would host an MLS Next Pro team and a potential USL Super League women’s team, while anchoring broader mixed-use development. Baltimore native Carmelo Anthony is also investing and will be an active partner in the women’s team. MORE: https://ow.ly/QWPe50YesCZ
I'm firmly in the yawn camp on this one. Every penny that goes to an MLS Next team is a penny that should have been spent on upgrading the real team.
I’m optimistic that United’s attendance this season will draw more on average than the capacity of the proposed Baltimore stadium. I’m not sure by how much, but I’m optimistic. And not to hijack the purpose of this thread, but 12k for an MLSNP squad is insane. Baltimore is an underutilized market and I’m sure they’ll try and get other events with more drawing power in there, but damn is that going to be empty for Baltimore United/DC United 2 or whatever they end up calling that team.
I disagree on it truly detracts from 1st team development - we know DCU aint going anywhere with Leviathan and Kraplan in charge - even as they have opened up the checkbook a bit. There is long-term and constant griping about the (lack of) DCUA - they gotta do something and anything less than $300m (however that is structured and the timeframe) isnt gonna move the needle. 12k does seem ridiculous - that more than half the size of Eaglebank Arena East. Heck, Loudoun United holds what 5 or 6K? And its usually half full/empty. Is there really so much demand for a low-level team in Charm City? Very little chance I, from western Fairfax, is going to drive an hour to attend a USL/MLSNP level event there... heck, I don't go to Loudoun, 20 mins from home, unless my son wants to watch one of his coaches play.
Even if Baltimore gets a USL Super League team, only one of those teams now average more than 5K. Most are sub 2.5K.
yup, and now that I read the article, it says will be expandable to 25k for a future MLS expansion club. now THAT is optimism.
One day we will have a team worthy of this fan display https://www.instagram.com/reel/DRskaL_jcQ9/?igsh=MWU4NDhzcXZ2YmJ4Nw==
There have been plenty of times recently when I’ve felt like setting fire to the stadium while watching DC United, what are you talking about?
Ha ha. I didnt pay attention to the context of why they did it. I know we have had literally decades of why we could do it for being upset. But seeing as how this is the optimism thread, I posted in the dream we start getting results and once again have more than a few fans in the stands that show some actual fanaticism and there is something that might called home field advantage...
