Former Tory MP Jonathan Gullis, who is dumber than a bag of rocks, has joined Reform. I'm sure there's no correlation here.
Farage tries to justify his racist comments by arguing that, among others, Alf Garnett was regularly on TV at the time, and that those sort of views were commonplace. Spectacularly missing the point of the character. Mitchell was an avowed socialist who said: “Playing Alf Garnett allowed me to hold up a mirror to society's prejudices and make people think about their own views. Alf Garnett's character was a vehicle to expose and critique bigotry in a way that made people laugh, but also made them reflect. I just hope people understood the satire.”
https://www.theguardian.com/politic...uss-show-review-hapless-ravings-from-a-closet One of the best reviews I've read in some time, on Liz Truss' new YouTube show. Some excerpts:
An interesting TL: DR on the subject of the UK housing crisis... I can't help thinking this plays into the issue of asylum seekers, in that the situation is dire in general. Although, (contrary to racist commentators in the UK), they're not treated better than UK citizens, (worse, in fact), the situation they're entering has enormous stresses, anyway. Also, there are no areas where you don't need extensive permissions to build, as they have in some parts of the states I believe, (I'm not sure about other countries). The problem is that the issues we're facing won't be improved over the next few years so it's unlikely to get a lot better. If we could start building large numbers of houses, people will see that something's being done and that might improve the position. As it happens, we've started building more social housing of a reasonable quality in the people's democratoc socialist replublic of Telord so... we're doing our bit
I see Badenoch seems to be improving her showings in the polls which gives me a degree of hope in the sense she can be fighting it out with Farage's lot. On the other hand she's just as likely to come to a 'deal', (AKA 'a stitch up'), with him. If we can come to a deal with the LibDems and the greens that might not matter as much but this Polanski character comes across as a bit of a nutter.
The is still rumbling on... https://www.theguardian.com/society...eft-in-turmoil-after-two-survivors-quit-panel https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...consider-ethnicity-and-religion-badenoch-says A lot of this relates to things I've mentioned previously that are covered at the start of this... https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002dzj6 That indicated that, in the areas where the data was recorded, over half the perpetrators were asian despite them making up barely a fifth of the population. Of course, in at least one of those areas, they'd carried out specific police enquiries to identify Asian grooming gangs so that's probably not surprising, although the numbers were still extremely high. But, AFAIK, in the other areas, the police were just investigating grooming gangs, per se. As Bareness Casey said, either record ALL the data about perpetrators or don't record ANY of it. Recording a bit of it in a few areas is a bloody disaster because, inevitably, people will interpret what results they have in their own way. Specifically, that some asian men somehow feel 'entitled' to sexually abuse young girls, (presumably due to some idea that they're victims of racism so it's their way of getting back at their tormentors). Also that the police haven't investigated because they're afraid of being accused of racism for 'targeting' asians and also that they thought the girls were what would be called 'white trash' in America... so they didn't care or look very carefully. Is there an element of truth in any of that? Who the hell knows. In general, if you're studying grooming gangs and you're not gathering data about people's possible motivations, (apart from the obvious one, of course), that's not a great situation. Bluntly, you probably need to record ALL relevant factors... not just the ones that don't find embarrassing or which show the police in a bad light. Of course, as that also says, grooming gang CSA only makes up about 5% anyway.
Nadhim Zahawi, former chancellor and fraudulent expense claimer, has defected from the Tories to Reform. Is he any relation to this Nadhim Zahawi, by any chance? I love the smell of opportunism in the morning.
I'm sure this is sheer coincidence 🚨 NEW: Nadhim Zahawi was allegedly denied a Tory peerage just weeks before defecting to Reform today Tory source: "Nadhim asked for a peerage several times. Given he was sacked for his dodgy tax affairs, this was never going to happen" h/t @Tony_Diver— Politics UK (@PolitlcsUK) January 12, 2026
UKIP (yes, they're still going) have submitted a request to change they're party logo. Can't see any problems with this.
Badenoch has removed the Tory whip from "Honest" Robert Jenrick, sacked him from the Shadow Cabinet and suspended him from the party, claiming he was about to defect to Reform. Reporting appears to indicate they found out about this after he left his resignation speech lying out, and it was picked up by someone who sent it on to Badenoch.
I read something earlier that said he was completely out of his depth at the home office dealing with immigration. Apparently, he'd try and do things that were completely impossible and when his officials said 'We can't do that', he'd throw a hissy fit and go off in a strop. Doesn't surprise me.
Yeah, I saw that. He was my sister's MP for fair bit, and she had nothing good to say about him - that he was just interested in the next publicity piece he could get.
