Ireland chiefs want Old Firm to join them Ireland are set to battle England's Nationwide chiefs for the opportunity of including the Old Firm in their competition... Tribal Football
What?? What benefit would the Old Firm see in the League of Ireland?? It is a semi-professional outfit, with no big clubs and no teams that have any continental credibility. True that it would help the League of Ireland.. but the Old Firm would have to beg Nationwide League or SPL to stay in if faced with this set of options. Also it would make the Rangers face "hostile" opponets every week. It sure would put Irish football on the map... or hold up.. it would more likely take the Old Firm off the map. Maybe if this falls through.. the League of Wales will come up with an offer.
What?? What benefit would the Old Firm see in the League of Ireland?? Last resort I would imagine. True that it would help the League of Ireland. Exactly. The article is about Irish officials wanting them to join but the Old Firm would have to beg Nationwide League or SPL to stay in if faced with this set of options. I know everyone has their own opinion but talk of joining the Nationwide league in two years has flared up again. I was wondering if anyone thought it was a realistic possibility? And if it's a good idea? Also it would make the Rangers face "hostile" opponets every week. Nothing wrong with that...
This has to be a non-starter. Or just a joke. The Irish league is far weaker than the Scottish premier. It would be like the Old Firm joining the Scottish division 1.
I wouldn't lose sleep over it. For so many reasons, it will not happen. Although I am amused by some of the Scottish football snobs! Its coffee-smelling time!
Them Irish are funny peeps?! Son, I wouldn't want the Old Firm in Ireland if it meant every taxpayer there got 10% of their next bill from the Revenue Commissioners!
Good luck defending the championship this year, I heart mighty livingston and Hearts will provide a stern outfit for which to test your championship metal on.
