I'd be happy if he took Urena's minutes. I agree with Jazz, he's not a good fit at ACM in Leitchy's 3-5-2. Tommy or Wondo would work much harder there to support the midfield. So he has to be one of the two up top. The pieces still don't fit real well up top. We still need more hold up play at forward. I was hoping to see more of that from Danny, but he's been just ok in that regard. I wouldn't mind taking a look at Quincy and Vako up top with Wondo underneath...with Tommy as the 8.
The consensus of my viewing party was that he was not match fit. We signed him almost two months ago. How long does it take?
Looking at his stats, he hadn't played much all year.....Looking it up , it looked like American Matt Miazga started over him. Regardless of what position he plays, it makes you wonder how he became a DP as a reserve part timer from the same club in which a regular every day run of the mill America player starts at....
maybe explained by this? https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/jo...and-post-mortem.1385629/page-64#post-35762221
What's important is that he helps the team get points. Doesn't matter so much if he starts or not. If you had a guy that could get you a goal one way or another like 80% of the time coming off of the bench, that is a very valuable player to have. Any team would pay big $ for that.
I know I had posted regardless of what position he plays, it makes you wonder how he became a DP as a reserve part timer from the same club in which a regular every day run of the mill America player starts at....Obviously he wasn't rated among the top players at Vitesse otherwise he would have stayed. From looking at his stats, I don't think he played that much all season in the Dutch Eredivisie. Unless you use Geovani , Innocent and Dawkins as examples, history has proven the Quakes aren't just any team and that has money to burn on players. Do you know how much they are paying Vako?
He is probably a "cheapo" DP along the lines of Wondo and Dawkins ($600-800k, something like that). He doesn't have the resume to warrant much more than that. We won't find out until the next roster salary figures come out, I don't think.
For the Quakes, that is still quite a lot of money. Guess because he is young enough, he will be a project which will continue into next season.
My honest hope is that the front office would have no say in who plays and who doesn't play, aside from providing the money to sign players. Unless by front office you mean Fioranelli specifically. In that case, I hope Fioranelli isn't stupid enough to play a guy just to pad his numbers at the expense of the rest of the team. We watched it happen enough under Kinnear that we know it's a no win situation. It's like leaving a pitcher in when he's walked two guys in a row and thrown 100 pitches just cause he has a no hitter going. Sometimes you take a dude out to prevent the eventual the levee giving way since the team's result is more important than the individual's.
At this point, I can care less. I'm sure they are counting the days to give him his less paycheck and have him go find a team in england. Maybe he will do good there but he isn't doing anything here.
Agreed, FO should not be trying to dictate who plays. And there shouldn't be pressure to play a DP just because he's a DP and we need to "get our money's worth". And we should not play a guy just to reach a "stats milestone" though if Wondo is on the cusp of beating LD's career MLS goals I'd be willing to let that slide under the right conditions .
It appears that Fioranelli has influence on how the team plays, which implies he affects the roster selection as well. He is clearly a marketing type and I wouldn't put it past him to advocate for keeping the face of the franchise on the field. Especially when wondo remains the top goal scorer of the season.
I don't think Jesse is a marketing guy actually, any more than Doyle was. Jesse's background is on player acquisition - evaluating players and procuring their services, and he has something to say about style of play as well in a more visionary sense.
I'm really surprised at the number of people in this thread who have passed judgement on Vako already and found him wanting. The guy hasn't had enough time yet to prove either way, and he's only pre-season fit. I don't know if he will get match fit and gel into the team in what remains of this season. But I firmly believe this guy has the goods, and will be a very good player for the Quakes next season. Your facts are way off. Matt Miazga is owned by Chelsea and played at Vitesse last year. Vako spent the year on a season-long loan at Warsaw. They weren't on the same team and they don't play the same position. So when you say Vako was a "reserve part-timer" you're way off. Vako was appearing 40 times a year for Vitesse through 2014-15 and 2015-16. He played 33 times each of those years in the Eredvisie (out of 34 games). That pretty much makes him a regular. He scored 12 times for Vitesse in 2014-15, making him their 3rd highest scorer, out of midfield, and taking no penalties. I don't know why he went on loan to Warsaw. It's a step up in clubs, with champions league football. Warsaw finished 1 pt off champions of Poland. He missed the start of the season. The Polish season started at the end of July while he was still at Vitesse. The Dutch season didn't start until August. He played 3 times for Vitesse and then left on loan at the end of August, so he was playing every week for Vitesse until his move. He made his debut with Warsaw on Matchday 9 in mid-September, which means he had an opportunity for at most 21 appearances, he made 16. He only started 3 times, and made another dozen or so sub appearances. Anyway, no run of the mill American player is starting at Warsaw. And Vako was anything but a part timer in his time at Vitesse.
Regardless of the position they are playing, Miazga is on their team as a starter while Vako was deemed expendable and wasn't a starter this season. At least not all the game logs I saw. If he was good enough or if he was among their top players, I can assure you he will have remained and never been considered for MLS duty. Especially at such a young age, European clubs rarely get rid of a promising, young up and coming players. As far as thinking or believing he is good enough for the Quakes or not, I already posted from what I saw if him, he should be starting. Again they didn't bring him here as a New DP for mop up duty or to be a super sub. I don't believe that at all. With ten games left and with the playoffs at stake, Vako needs to play and start now! Legia won the championship btw. but not like it matters in this case... Vako for some reason completely failed to produce, he was hardly noticeable on the pitch, and I guess did not show anything in training either. Yes, competition was very tough in Warsaw last season (with Vadis and Radovic controlling midfield) but still, we expected much more of Vako. He scored his single goal in a game Legia won 6:0, so his impact at winning the title was negligible. I don't remember any assists either. No one really was disappointed at Legia not buying him out, and I guess Vitesse did not want him back, meaning they also have better players. In my opinion, he should be making no more than 200-300K Euro per season. How much are you paying him?
I know exactly how tough it is in Europe. One slip up and your gone. Most players don't last as long as Salinas has if they aren't producing. Just look at rosters from year to year.
Exactly. Juventus and Massimo Allegri didn't even consider him. He wouldn't be in Toronto now if they did. At the end, the same goes for Pirlo at Juve.
So, whether or not Vako produced in Europe is not determinative whether or not he can produce in MLS.
