Many people in the Fire forum thought Dombrowski was a better player than Grabavoy on the PDL Fire Reserves last summer. Grabovoy was a projected 1st rounder, and ended up going in the #14 spot (I believe) to the Galaxy.

So there's hope for the #50 pick!! :)

I have followed this guy in collage and in the CFR, I have a biased opion but I can say that others not suppporting UWM who saw this guy in CFR and those who truley know about CFR say that he was BETTER than Grabavoy. This guy WILL make your squad one way or the other, he is too determined to fail.

Quote from the Horizion League Championship game..I saw this gem, man I wish I had my video camera that day.
"Tighe quickly made it 2-0 less than three minutes later when he beat five CSU defenders before rifling home a 16-yard blast at the 26:32 mark."

CSU wasn't in the 2003 Horizon League championship game and neither was Dombrowski.

Onionsack, what is Tighe's best position? Is he better wide left or more central? Is he a d-mid or attacking midfielder? Can he score with his right foot, or only the left?

Using that as a criteria, his brother Chad would have gone in the 2nd round instead of the 5th.

In collage he played in Coach Louis Bennett's 4-3-3. The team is loaded with forwards and fast wingers, so Tighe's role was center midfield. I think a lot of the praise given to Tighe has to do with the fact so much was asked of him in the center mid role. I would have to classify him more as an A-Mid. The system demanded he push forward to support the 3 forwards. Usally the ball went trough Tighe to the wings and then crossed into the box. (Very much an English style of play). Tighe was a goal scoring threat here becasue he has tremendous heading power and acuracy, as well as great leaping ability for his size.

He scores mostly from long shots with the left foot. He has a very strong shot, and usally accurate however he has gone through dips in form from time to time with his long shot. He has power in both feet but seems more acurate with the left. He has good touch when needed, I have seen him chip keepers from 30+ yards out on a few occasions (very beautiful goals). He was or captian and when in defence very aggresive on the ball, playing a closing down pressure defence, he was our ball winner in the midfield and insrumental in creating counter attacking chances with his vision and quick passing.

With CFR he was played in many positions including forward and right midfield. He was more of a goal scoring threat with CFR due to the different style of play and seemed to improve his game when playing with other more skillful players.,(Grabavoy, Tanner, etc.)

Because so much was asked of him during his time here he has developed into a very versitile player with many strengths to his game. The only thing that he could really improve on is his crosses, he wasn't called on to do that much here, as our wingers were more skilled in that area.

Hope that helps a bit as I am not a profesional scout, but after watching you damn Quakes in the play-offs last year I would say if anything else that his attitude and workmanship would fit in well with your current squad as he has that same "never-say-die" style.

Yeah too bad every game couldn't be like that, CSU was our wipping boy that season as we outscored them 15-0 in two games. Still it was an amazing effort to get that goal.

Onionsack, at this rate, you're going to single-handedly get Dombrowski a Quakes roster spot by the sheer force of your BigSoccer campaign :)

    Please answer the following.

    I am:

    a) Tighe Dombrowski
    b) Tighe Dombrowski's agent
    c) A close relative of Tighe Dombrowski
    d) A close personal friend of Tighe Dombrowski
    e) A UWM alum or soccer fan but not a personal friend of Tighe Dombrowski
    f) None of the above

Seriously, though, thanks for all the info, and I hope you're right about Dombrowski. I'm looking forward to seeing him and the other draftees play. Unfortunately, it's sometimes hard to get a feel for the new players initially since they may not see much action in matches. People are still wondering about Quakes F Roger Levesque a year(?) after he was drafted. So it may take some time...

I played with Tighe for various clubs outside of UWM and know him casually as we are both part of this close knit soccer community. I also follow the collage program here closely and have close friends on the team. Since he is from a more obscure soccer school I thought I could help enlighten people here on the type of player Tighe is, as I bet it is difficult to know what your #50 pick is all about out in the west coast. If it comes down to a battle between your midfield draftees for just 1 roster spot...I'll put my money on Tighe.

Thanks, Onionsack, and thanks again for all the info on Dombrowski...

By the way, now that one of your homeys has been drafted by the Quakes, now is a convenient time for you to officially switch allegiances from red to blue :)

I don't know why, but this is the draft guy I'm most exited about...

I think it's because I figure the first two (Cochrane, Cronin) are pretty much sure to stick with us, and I just don't know anything about anyone else (including Tighe). ....and the descriptions of this guy make him sound like a perfect Quake - a hard worker, good workrate, tons of heart, hard worker, some skill, good wor...

I want this guy to succeed for us!

You need to be recommended to the league by at least one MLS coach, or have participated in the MLS combine.

I can't wait to see what we have in this guy and the other draft picks. Any idea what day practices actually start? I thought I heard something about early Feb, but haven't seen a definitive date.

The RevsNet scouting report on Dombrowski reminded me a bit of Ian Russell.

The one thing that concerned me in the report was the following: "...is a reckless, borderline dirty tackler who picks up a lot of yellow and red cards." Then I noticed that he led the Fire Reserves in fouls by a large margin--almost twice as many as the next guy on the team. It's obvious he plays the game with a lot of aggression and passion, but maybe too much so?

According to the Quakes notebook on the Quakes web site, players report for pyhsicals on Sun. Feb 1, and start two a day practices on Mon. Feb 2. I presume they are at West Valley College.

I wouldn't be too concerned about that, though it's somewhat alarming that he leads the team in fouls by nearly a factor of 2! In any case, seems like you could easily learn not to be a "reckless tackler", unless the guy is just somehow chronically unable to control his emotions. But it's very hard to learn to be fast, have good leaping ability, play with passion, etc., things the guy may have, according to reports.

Sounds like revsnet is scouting Roy Keane.

Dirty tackler is a bit of an over-statement. He is very aggresive on the ball and does get his fair share of cards, but I can only think of a couple times where he has been sent off during a match over the past 3 years here and he's never injured any player I know of...hurt maybe..injure no. :)
