As you've noted, this is a weird one, since often-reputable sites list him as born in both places. The Florida thing is pretty widespread; the Wikipedia citation for his birthplace is a HITC article. I dunno. Definitely worth looking into!
Christian Turizo (1983) is listed by TM as a US/Colombian citizen. His Twitter feed says he was born in Colombia and he has lived & played in the US quite a bit. He's been in the Dominican Republic since 2015, now with Delfines del Este FC. https://www.transfermarkt.com/chris-turizo/profil/spieler/228496 His LinkedIn profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/christian-turizo-a88226175/
The post above was made in 2019; in November 2020, he signed for a U.S. indoor team, with the announcement saying: Powell has played arena soccer for the Dallas Sidekicks and Mesquite Outlaws while playing outdoor soccer locally for both the Fort Worth Vaqueros and Fort Worth Inocentes FC, as well as internationally for teams in Iceland and Sweden. His career highlights include averaging a goal a game while playing in Sweden for Saffle FF and scoring on his professional debut in Iceland. Powell was also honored to be named to the US Futsal camp roster this past year. https://www.dallassidekicks.com/news/sidekicks-sign-fa-forward-anthony-powell
According to the only stats I can find about his time in Sweden, it was actually 4 goals and one red card in 6 games in 2018. Saffle were in the 5th division.
A number of sites, many and perhaps all of which may be working off the same database, say that an '04 named Tommy Villena in the academy of Barcelona Guyaquil in Ecuador was born in New York. I haven't been able to quickly find much corroboration, but he appears to have spent some time with EYNTs. And he's "Instagram-American," which is usually a good clue. https://www.instagram.com/tommyvillena/
Former YNTer Alex Molano posted that he was training a player "for Argentina." It looks like he's a Texas '03. https://www.facebook.com/1519620256/posts/10219182991035167/?d=n
Here's a (Spanish) article that gets into his American connection a little bit. https://www.tenfield.com.uy/la-hist...a-que-volvio-de-eeuu-juanico-por-tres-amigos/
When I saw that Drew Beckie had signed in the Canadian Premier League, I was going to set up a thread for him, because he had been in the US since he was a kid and his sister (Canadian WNT player Janine) was born here. I figured it was a safe bet that he was a US citizen by now. But I found his LinkedIn profile online and it included this line: Canadian Citizen, US Permanent Resident. So despite living in the US for most of the last 20+ years, it looks like he never took the last step to citizenship. I'm putting this in the thread to help if he moves elsewhere in the future (a possible move to Finland was stymied by a medical scare in 2018 or so). Here's a link to the complete documentary on his heart issue: http://www.kickingandscreening.com/screening-room-library//still-defending
T'Markt says a guy named Lawrence Mullins-Hammond who joined German club SV Morlautern (where a number of Yanks have played recently) for this past season is American. https://www.transfermarkt.de/lawrence-miles-mullins-hammond/profil/spieler/810419 His arrival at the club, from England, was reported in the press last fall. https://www.rheinpfalz.de/lokal/kai...ärkt-sich-mit-hochkarätern-_arid,5108567.html Haven't quickly found much about him. His English club was Bishop's Stortford. https://www.kingstonian.com/match/2...division/bishops-stortford/kingstonian/144022
Connecting some dots, it appears that the Daniel Roberts listed as "unavailable" by lower-division Barnstaple Town in October... Daniel Roberts and Yohan Rutty-Smith were unavailable while Jordan Foster, Harry Clarke and Richard Acheampong continue their rehabilitation from injury. Dean Edwards therefore gave a debut to Lewis Toop at right back. https://barnstapletownfc.co.uk/Matchreport.aspx?id=474418 ... is an English-born '89 who was raised in Texas (and played youth, collegiate and lower-division pro soccer) in the States. A number of database sites call him English-American. The Dynamo had him in their academy and subsequently drafted him.
T'Markt says an '01 named Egzon Dinosha currently playing in Montenegro, and who has some MYNT appearances, was born in Detroit. I haven't quickly found this elsewhere, including other database sites. https://fscg.me/en/players/egzon-dinosha-108247/ https://www.transfermarkt.de/egzon-dinosha/profil/spieler/405828
In addition to playing in Montenegro, that first link includes information about him receiving 1 Montenegro u18 cap and 10 u17 caps. His name sounds Albanian, so it is possible he might also be eligible for Kosovo and/or Albania. There is an ethnic Albanian community in the Detroit area so that would be plausible with the rumored Detroit birth place.
T'Markt says there's a '99 named Jordan Watson who is or was at a lower-division German club called Leher. https://www.transfermarkt.de/jordan-watson/profil/spieler/600972 This could be a guy who went to HS in the Northwest. https://www.ncsasports.org/mens-soc.../everett/cascade-high-school6/jordan-watson12
T'Markt says a '96 named Cristian Alvarado who is poised to leave Guatemalan club Chimaltenango FC is American-born. I found some press reports from earlier in the year reporting his signing, but not that much else yet. https://www.transfermarkt.de/cristian-alvarado/profil/spieler/784664
A number of sites, which may all be hitting the same database, say a player named Eneko Lasheras Ochoa, who played collegiately in the U.S. and in USL-2, is American and was with Spanish club Fontellas. I can't easily confirm that. https://us.soccerway.com/players/eneko-lasheras-ochoa/609437/ https://fscmocs.com/sports/mens-soccer/roster/eneko-lasheras/2751
HEY @USMNT-@BMcBride20,LOOK👀 AT HIM AND LISTEN TO HIM👇 https://t.co/h3BcTnKVXS— Christian Kian Fonseca 🇺🇸💉🇮🇪🇨🇳🇵🇹🇦🇴🇩🇪 (@C_Fonseca12) June 20, 2021 Apparently interested in USMNT if possible
I'm doing a periodic run-through of my "usual suspects" list of sites that are often useful for finding YA leads. (In the left-hand column of the sheet here, I'm putting a "0" to confirm that I checked and things more or less still work.) If you have new ideas or suggestions, please do share, even if you're not sure how useful they might be! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16zZzus-m2xHEAg_HZepbkclVioYzQUwdS6eab972Sw4/edit?usp=sharing
The Turkish Fed site, which has been pretty useful in the past, currently says its player pages are down "in order to make the necessary arrangements in line with the Law of Personal Data Protection," so that's a bummer.
OK -- here you go: the keys to the castle. I've updated my spreadsheet of useful (or potentially useful) sites where YAs can be researched. I might be missing some points but I feel like this is pretty useful as of June 2021. With that said, anything you see here that you can improve upon, or any new sites you can suggest/add, are welcome. The left hand numbered column denotes my read on the usefulness of the site described. 1 is the best; 4 is basically useless right now AFAIK. 2 and 3 are somewhere in between. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16zZzus-m2xHEAg_HZepbkclVioYzQUwdS6eab972Sw4/edit?usp=sharing Get to work!
A number of sites say that there's an American-born '05 named Bora Aydınlık with Fenerbache's u19s. https://www.transfermarkt.de/bora-aydinlik/profil/spieler/900024 https://int.soccerway.com/players/bora-aydnlk/718701/ I haven't been able to quickly track down a citation for the birthplace, but he does seem to exist. https://www.instagram.com/bora_aydnlk/?hl=en
If I trusted online Nigerian soccer media more, I might just create a thread, but here's an interesting tidbit about Kenny Coker. Born in the United States of America to an English mom and Nigerian father, Coker is eligible to represent the Super Eagles, Three Lions and Stars and Stripes. "I was born in Atlanta, Georgia. My mum is English and my dad is Nigerian so I haven't decided which nation I would play for yet, I am just going to take it all as it comes," said Coker. https://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=40399 Coker is 17 years old. a center forward and just signed with Norwich City in May. TM profile: https://www.transfermarkt.us/kenny-coker/profil/spieler/741930 Played with Charlie Kelman at Southend United.
T'Markt has an '02 named Juan Moreno at Colombian second-division club Fortaleza as American-born. https://www.transfermarkt.de/juan-moreno/profil/spieler/906790 Doesn't seem to be the same guy as this Juan Moreno at the same club, but then one or both of these databases could be wrong... https://www.zerozero.pt/player.php?id=873114&epoca_id=150
