Damn. Since 2006 after Italy won they’ve only beaten England, and since Germany won they’ve only beaten Sweden and Costa Rica

It was also interesting to see two European coaches who won the treble/sixtuple were embarrassed this World Cup, for all those who say winning the champions league is more difficult than the World Cup

Say what you will, I know football has changed, but you need to play with a striker. A real forward. Spain were bossing, besides Switzerland in 2010 because they had Villa and Torres. Then they got injured and you started seeing those 1-0 results with 99.9999% possession.

 

Imagine a coach in Mexico not starting a 21 yr old chicharito who had signed with ManU, was scoring goals in domestic league in favor of a less than 100% veteran..... Yet Portugal coach benches a true GOAT for a 21 yr old rising star.

I think this speaks more to the nature of short tournaments than to the quality of the side. Though, to be sure, their has been a decline in the level of play of both the Germans and Spanish NTs.
