I don't understand why people would be against fans paying money and showing up to the park to actively support their team. This sort of thing should be encouraged.

Actually, I do like the plastic horns. When my friends and I went to Sting games, we would bring a couple. We would sit right by the 'Honey Bees' (or whatever the cheerleaders were called) and during their routines we accompanied them with the horns.

    They loved us. :)

I'm sure true appreciators of the plastic horn have noticed that they sound different in each stadium. For instance, in L.A., the horns sound like a plague of locusts just beginning to invade ripening fields. In New York, ironically, they sound like car horns in stalled expressway traffic.

Or maybe that's what they were: I first noticed that fact at last years US Open Cup final where 5000 people showed up... so maybe it was traffic.

By the way, CUS, they were in fact the Honey Bees.

my fantasy: i extend my fingers, exposing the flat of my palm, turn to the nearest hornblower, and push that horn w/ all my might, down that hornblower's throat.

I bought a plastic horn once. It sounded great in the cavernous Rose Bowl, though I must admit I really don't have the "pucker" for it, and the Hispanics around me were razzing me for not being able "to play it" right. :)

I put it away for a few years but last fall it served a new purpose: it became my puppy's new chew toy for about 6 weeks, until he'd ripped it into such shreds that you couldn't even call it a bugle.

I intend to buy another one for my puppy the first chance I get. :)
