So I went over to the Philly board just to see their thoughts on the match up. They have no idea what is about to happen. I know that everyone sees things through their own team colored glasses....Philly is a tough match up. Le Toux and Mawanga are going to be difficult to contain. They are not playing the same team they met earlier in the season. I guess they will find out soon enough.
EXACTLY right !!..This is the new Dynamo team with lots of attacking power...will gave you a Costly taste of Moffatmania !!
Philly is so bad.... Ruiz (the epitome of sh*t) couldn't live in such a sh*thole Edit: I'm sorry. I misread thread name. I thought this is where we trash talked. I slightly take back what I said
I know better than to underestimate Philly, but I will say that I saw some stuff out of Carr and Costly tonight that I have been waiting a long time to see and I feel like the Dynamo have been a mediocre team all season and they have peaked right at the end and there's no better time to peak than at the end of the regular season. I have very high hopes for the Philly series. I also find myself in the uncomfortable position of wanting to see FC Dallas successful against Kansas City in their matchup.
Our team is totally different since we brought in Camargo and moved Geoff to CB. TOTALLY different. They are in for a surprise.
Moffat has added some type of X factor to this, even with some errors he makes he adds grit to the midfield. I see this as a very even matchup. IIRC, Philly scratched out a lot of early 1-0 type wins, 1-1 draws, etc., nothing explosive but good enough to get results early and get on top of the East, then sort of faded a bit in the middle of the season. Could go either way, but the Dynamo have a legit chance to win this one. Kind of feels like 2009 matchup vs. Seattle.
Shhh......we are the same team when we had Cameron at attacking mid. LOL. Seriously though, Philly is a good team and are playing fairly well with Le Toux catching fire. Even if Geoff matches up with Le Toux that leaves Mwanga or another attacker working against BB.com.
Moffat doesn't make any more errors than what we previously made with Palmer in there and has certainly been an upgrade. Philly has proven to be a tough matchup for us as we've never beaten them I don't believe. They are a solid defensive team just like we've become late this season. Games should be very, very tight.
Philly vs. Houston will be the best, equally matched, matchup in the playoffs. Whoever wins this will play in the Cup Final.
I love the way Philly is so certain they will win, and the one guy that says our win in Portland was "anti-football." You know, every game I remember we played against Philly they got a lucky goal and then defended with 11 players the rest of the game. That's the way they've played other games I've seen them.. That is so "pro-football," the kind of soccer everybody loves. I hate them and always hated them.
The funny thing is, if you watch the highlights of the August game where we got so lucky, when we score the Philly announcers concede that it is well deserved because we dominated the game.
I can't say I disagree with anything about this so far-on paper I think they are better, but once again, in typical Houston fashion (in the Dom's master plan) we are hitting are stride at the right time, which is something they are not. this-except I look at last night through tainted lenses-who the heck was the other team out there. I think Carr and Costly are talented but that might have been looked related inflated playing that glorified high school team that Lipps put out there last night. But we do seem to be hitting our stride and the guys seem to be coming together. I think Chester is going to be a tough place to get a result but if we do, I think we can pull it off. Last night reminded me of what Robertson used to be like with 30K (w/o a Mexican team involved).
Games like yesterday kind of get me mad. I remember at our All-Star game half, if not more, of the stadium was wearing a Dynamo jersey or something Dynamo related. These people don't show up throughout the season, though. As somebody pointed out earlier, because they rarely show up; we are only getting a 22K stadium. Oh well...c'est la vie.
To my knowledge the only thing they've done is offer tickets to the game, which in the grand scheme of things is a pretty small portion of going to a road game. It would be great if they used their "Official Airline" and "Official Hotel" connections to help out.
I must have missed the memo where the Union play the beautiful game. Look I understand if that criticism is coming from Dallas, RSL, LA, Seattle or even NY to a lesser extent.....but Philadelphia? Really?
Anyone seen any commercial play promoting our playoff push yet? We've been in two weeks now and not a damn thing. WTF? This is a huge time to be out pimping the brand for the new stadium next year.
It will be tougher than a weekend date to fill it up for the Thursday night return leg. Other than the Friday night FC Dallas playoff game, Dynamo have only had Sat/Sunday playoff games (mostly Sunday). Virtually no tickets were sold prior to last night than other to existing STHs, so you've got to get a lot of short-advance ticket sales done. IIRC, in prior years we had our playoff spot typically locked up a few weeks earlier under the old format that guaranteed a home game so they would do late season two-packs with the playoff game in it. This year, no dice. Add in that it is a Thursday night school night/worknight deal and if we get 25,000 I would be surprised and pleased.
I would not be surprised to see more even on a Thursday night-if the weather is good and it's a good start time. Folks seem to be getting on the bandwagon again, and most of that is with the buzz of the new digs downtown. Don't forget that Colorado (cue "we are so predictable") playoff match was a Sunday night with a week's notice IRC. Then again I was drunk, so what do I recall. Rey-if you post the youtube clip-I'll kill you.
If Anti-football means being physical, then sure we play that style. But we dominated possession in that game, so he can't purely point to that. Besides, we won two cups playing that style and no one on Philly's board has the right to tell the Dynamo the best way to win cups. This is just their second year in the league and first time in the playoffs. All we need now is that somebody to step up and fill the DeRo role from those two championship seasons. Or maybe, with the way we distribute the goals around this season, that won't be necessary.
Well one thing is for sure, they were certain that the elbow by Ruiz on Hainault didn't deserve any sort of punishment as it "wasn't intentional" (apparently the laws of football and dangerous play is lost on them) but I'd certainly agree that if they're basing their opinions on the opener, then that isn't the wisest course of action. They don't and I watched several of their matches on Direct Kick. They're a good team to be sure (and they're getting Mwanga back for the playoffs, coming off an injury) so they'll be a handful but I'm not worried at all about them playing us off the field. They haven't yet. Believe it or not, this was the one team I wanted to see us play.
