What if PayPal Park had a steam train running through it on occasion? :)

Bratislava is one of my favorite cities. Itโ€™s a great place to visit. Really awesome!

But I donโ€™t think the train is at that stadium.

Today, the United States menโ€™s national soccer team will once agan train at PayPal Park in San Jose, California, ahead of their Round of 16 match against Belgium in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

    Anyone going?

I was reading up about the soccer tournament of the 2028 LA Olympics where PayPal will be one of the venues.

There will be 12 total teams in the competition.

Three from UEFA , Two from Comnebol and Two from Concacaf.

There will be 26 total matches played in a 12-team tournament format.

What kind of tournament could it possibly be?

Here is the exact breakdown of how those matches are distributed:
    1. Group Stage (18 matches)
    • There are 3 groups of 4 teams.
    • Each group requires 6 matches to complete a full round-robin (where every team plays each other once).
    • 3 groups ร— 6 matches = 18 matches.
    2. Knockout Stage (8 matches)
    • Quarterfinals: 4 matches (8 teams cut down to 4)
    • Semifinals: 2 matches (4 teams cut down to 2)
    • Bronze Medal Match: 1 match (between the two semifinal losers)
    • Gold Medal Match: 1 match (between the two semifinal winners)
    • 4 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 8 matches.
    Total Tournament Count
    • 18 Group Stage matches + 8 Knockout Stage matches = 26 total matches.
I'm betting Italy will miss this tournament as well.

The women's tournament will have 16 teams and play in the same stadiums. I assume they'll follow what you laid out but with an additional group. The men's Quarters must use 2 third place teams to get to 8, the women won't need to.

Bottom line - twice as many games at PP park.

USA may have more of a chance of gaining an Olympic medal with only 12 teams.

We went to the Bay game last Saturday, and the pitch looked awful. I was trying to remember who's played on it lately. Or why else it would look so wretched.

It was bad. My guess is that they had setup a stage in front of the closed end and it screwed up the grass. Looks to be re-sodded or repaired. You could make out faint tire tracks from the northeast corner to the spot. After looking at World Cup grass for the last month, this was shocking.

Can't wait for the concerts - not!

Here's a screen shot from BayFC highlights. It looked much worse in person.

OTOH - BayFC never looked better! Great win.[IMG]
