Yeah, they should have got Bank of the West and its 600 branches as a sponsor. Oh, that’s right, BMO acquired them a few years ago.

So now that Matt Mahan dropped out of the California governor’s race, is he going to concentrate on building the Quakes a new stadium next to the Shark Tank like he wanted?
He was gracious enough to concede despite securing (at the time) 4% of the vote. I never thought he had a chance. He joined late and has very low name recognition statewide. Most people in San Jose don’t even know who he is.
Even within the Silicon Valley bubble it didn’t go unnoticed that Mahan’s biggest endorsers were MAGA and reactionary tech figures like Joe Lonsdale, Sergey Brin, Garry Tan, Mike Solana, et al. alongside more conventional tech Dems like Reed Hastings. Just a cynical and laughable campaign, I’m glad he wasted all of their money.
First concert at PPP is Belicofest - a Mexican music festival, featuring Mexican music - corridos, norteño, banda, and modern urban fusions. Could be pretty successful I would guess?
So now that Matt Mahan is back in charge of San Jose, it looks like we will be getting a new stadium afterall!
Are you guys taking the “new stadium” stuff seriously? It’s not clear we’re even gonna get a new owner let alone one that wants to spend $500M on a new stadium and when a perfectly decent stadium already exists. Mahan is trying to conjure something out of thin air.
I don't know about @Goodsport but I'm mostly being facetious.... I don't believe a new stadium will ever emerge. They could expand or refurbish PayPal but I doubt another stadium will ever be built.
I heard he missed a gigantic proportion of SJ city council meetings because of his Gov campaign. I hope SJ voters don’t re-elect such a selfish narcissist again.
I always question exactly why the politicians continue to interject themselves when it comes to pro sports because they never really end up doing anything. I recall having a conversation with Susan Hammer, who was the 62nd Mayor of San Jose when Clash GM Peter Bridgwater wanted to move the San Jose Earthquakes from Spartan Stadium to San Francisco. She talked a lot and even stated how she would do all she could to block the move but I don’t ever recall her doing much. Bridgwater eventually got SJSU to expand and push out the balustrade walls at Spartan around 1998 and that is all they did. SJ City officials had no say in it though. I never followed the Oakland city officials but they also didn't do enough to keep the A's, Raiders and Warriors in town either. This morning I read J.B. Pritzker publicly criticized the Chicago Bears’ decision to advance stadium development in Hammond, Indiana, saying he is “very disappointed” in the team’s move. He is saying his administration had been in positive negotiations with the Bears, holding more than three hours of talks and largely agreeing on a bill that would have advanced a stadium project in Arlington Heights, Illinois. I seriously doubt though that he has done or will do enough to keep the Bears in Chicago.
Elected officials are indispensable to where pro teams land. The Bears are leaving Illinois because Gov. Pritzker effed up badly. The Bills are staying in New York (the state's only team) because Gov. Hochul greased the appropriate palms. Not a political commentary because both governors are of the same party and likeminded. Oakland is politically dysfunctional. Fisher and Kaval couldn't achieve a new A's stadium there, unlike their Quakes in San Jose, because of the relative local political landscape -- and because they didn't have an indigenous operation like SSV that intimately understood it. Not a fan of Mayor Mahan, but to his credit he is a fan of the Quakes.
