I tried searching the SJ Planning Dept website, but I couldn’t find anything recent that explains that construction behind the stadium. Maybe it is the future $3M Bay FC training facility that is supposed to be “next to” the stadium.

Ok, I asked my ticket rep today if he knew what was going on over there and he said it had to do with the “future BART or train station”. And it was just some preliminary work in preparation for the future station.

Thanks for asking about that! There’s supposed to be a BART station at the stadium? Was that always in BART’s plans? Because that would be huge coup for PPP.

Thanks for those links. I saw that BFC had invested $2M to train at SJSU but it seems they still intend to build their $3M facility at PPP. I’ve always wondered exactly where that was $3M thing was going to be sited. Your 2nd link is where I tried to find permit info on 1123 Coleman as well as Earthquakes Way and couldn’t find anything that applied to that back lot.

Bay FC never said they're building anything at PPP other than their new locker room building that's already in use. The have said that they are looking for a place to build training facility somewhere.

A station at the Santa Clara Caltrain station was always on the radar. A rendering plus a map here:

And note that "Newhall Yard and maintenance facility" is what's right behind the stadium.

It has been my understanding that the EQ grand plan for the Coleman property always included a BART station to be constructed nearby.

It was in the BART plans before Wolff/Fisher got interested in the property.

I think it makes sense to have a rail system that circumvents the bay. I've seen the Berryessa station when we've gong to Columbia or some other place in the Great Mall. Right now it's a terminus and has the attendant lack of "business". However, if/when we do get a system linking everywhere along the bay it'll be as busy as many others. Funny - I lived in Santa Clara for 35 years and never once took BART. Was a frequent flyer on VTA, Light Rail, CalTrain, etc. the whole time but because we live in an area unserved by BART never used it.

Thanks for that link, from there I found this webpage which describes what is going on behind PPP. It is the
"Notice of Early Construction for the West Portal at VTA's Newhall Yard & Maintenance Facility Beginning Late April 2024".
I don't know what West Portal means, but I guess it is not an actual BART station...

Sorry if this is a dup. I thought I posted this, but I don't see it in the thread. A link on that page led me to the page below, which explains that the construction is "Early Construction for the West Portal at VTA's Newhall Yard & Maintenance Facility Beginning Late April 2024". Although i don't know what a "West Portal" means. But I had always thought that area could become more practice fields, but obviously not.

BART is above ground in the southeast bay but will be subterranean in the downtown SJ portion, so the east/west portals are the entrances/exits to that underground portion.

I flew from NY (EWR) into OAK then took BART to Berryessa. Very convenient. My Spirit flight was $50 one way.

What a deal!!! I have done something similar a few times while chasing the best airfares. Fly in or out of SJC, VTA to or from Milpitas BART to or from San Francisco.

I got $34 from OAK to Austin on Spirit last year, never that cheap to NYC. I think I got $79 one way on US Airways in the early '00's.
