I overheard a Chinese waiter in an Indian restaurant talking about it.

I saw something on my Twitter feed to same effect but didn’t recognize source, so ignored it. Unsurprising, if true, though.

Bring back Hernán! Seriously lots of people probably wouldn’t agree but I think he’d rock with this team. But I also want to see Nick Fernandez get a chance to work into the spot.

Sort of validates @Beerking ’s prior contention. It’s too bad for him (not to mention the Quakes) - because his career seemed to be at an inflection point this season.

As I suspected, it's a groin injury, and as I suspected it will be a long time out. The last time he had a groin injury it was 74 days, so this one's even worse if they're saying 3-4 months. That's 90-12 days. However if he can come back in September, we'd still have 12 games or so left, which is 1/3 of the season.

I hope we're on the hunt for a DP (or bringing back Hernan)

Hoping for a healthy return for a young man who has been a very bright spot for the Quakes this season.

Hernán's loan, from what I can tell, goes to the end of the 2026 calendar year, and then there's a purchase option, so even if we wanted him back, it'd be too late for this season, and beyond that, it's not altogether in the Quakes' control. I'd love to see him play with this team though, I mean this year's team.

They say 3-4 months for Niko, let's call it 3.5 months. That'd put him back at the beginning of September, and we still have 12 games left at that point. Not sure about trying to sign a DP CAM because then what happens when Niko comes back. I think it might be better to meet some other need (another #9?), muddle thru the next 11 games or so, and leave the CAM spot open for Niko when he comes back. Then you've got your CAM and you've got more depth at CF.

This is Niko's 2nd or 3rd groin injury, and each time it's taken months to get back. I hope the trainers do everything they can to prevent it from happening again. Maybe incorporate yoga?

Well, at least the WC break helps. Still, sucks big time for him and the team.

Was so nice to see Niko living up to the hype this season. Kid just can’t stay healthy. Feel bad for all and wish him a speedy recovery but I don’t see him coming back this year.

Okay, I will go out on a limb here...you won't see Hernan play for the Quakes while Arena is the coach....he's the antithesis of what Arena wants to see in that 10 role. I can't believe no one else sees this...it's obvious. Hernan is very skilled, but not the disciplined ball progression player Bruce values.

I'm all for Fernandez getting more minutes as part of the solution while Niko is out.

I disagree. There will be actual "World Cup Heroes (tm)" available following the cup. We should get us one.

We have NO guarantee that Niko will come back as strong as he is now.
We have NO guarantee that Niko will come back this season.
We have a Solid Guarantee that the season is 34 games long.

I say that we sign the best darned #10 we can get and go with him. Maybe the team gets even better, maybe not. We make a decision about the roster at the end of the season, when we have time to breathe and calculate.

We're off to our best start ever. You want to squander that by not getting reinforcements when two of our best players are out? We need a #10 in this formation, and we don't have one now. Let's sign a #10.

Oh wait! RottenFish owns us, so we probably do nothing through the end of the season, or sale of the team, whichever comes first.

    F-word!!

    Go Quakesfans!!

I mean it's not mandated by the rules of soccer to play with a #10. We can go 4-4-2 like last match, or 3-4-2-1 like last year, or play Vieira + Leroux + Harkes (Fernandez) in midfield for a 4-3-3. We should find another high-level attacker over the WC break but ideally a versatile player who can play at least 2 out of the 3 attacking roles we have: central striker, attacking mid, and winger because we could also use improved cover for Judd. Like an affordable version of Son or Jesus Ferreira or something.
