Yes, but his college team is the St. Louis University Bills, so it's all good. :)

    Max is 23.
In any other futbolling country, he'd either be starting, or have washed out by now. Our "development system" is pathetic.

One, that's not true, plenty of 23 year olds who are not starting or washed out.
Two, he wasn't developed by the Quakes he's a draft pick out of college.

Poor Max. Not even up to a full page yet. If he didn't have a birthday once a year, this thread would be even emptier.

In other country’s though, there is a lot of loaning of U23 players across divisions and there are also many partnerships with lower division teams.

That is where many younger players end up making their bones.

That no longer seems to happen across MLS to the USL.

If anything, because both leagues are thriving to be the best or in the case of the USL wanting to be a division one circuit, I think fewer players will be loaned out between leagues presently or in the future.

That is not only sad for the game but it’s a detriment to the younger players development in my opinion.

True, plenty of 23 years old only getting sub minutes.

Yeah, he’s a college draftee. That’s part of my point. College players don’t get as many minutes as academy guys, or dudes playing in the lower divisions. College slows down player development, but a lot of our others sports use college as a developmental system, so it seems logical to players and their parents. The college game isn’t helping us develop players.

I'm wondering what the future holds for college soccer......

In the past, college players were not allowed to play or even train with the pros.

BYU over a decade ago , even dropped their soccer program and joined the PDL.

I'm thinking in the future, with the new rules on college players now being able to earn a salary, I can see many NCAA Division 1 soccer teams partnering with USL and MLS clubs and that is a good thing.

As a college draftee rookie, Floriani got more starts (9) than any academy product (Tsakiris with 4).

We are very much, especially now under Bruce, a college draftee bred team, not an academy bred team. Look at the young guys getting minutes who are draftees: Beau, Floriani, Bouda, Roberts, Ricketts, Munie, etc. Not so young anymore but Marie and Skahan are also still on the roster - college draftees. From the academy right now it's only Niko.

Our academy is producing good players but we're not doing well in terms of transitioning them to D1 playes. I do think that some kind of partnership with a USL would be a good thing to help players bridge the gap. We've got guys like Edwym Mendoza, Cruz Medina, Alejandro Cano, etc. who have shown themselves to be good Next/Pro players, but they don't get a chance to catch on with the 1st team. So we just kind of shrug and let their contracts run out. Well, he's doing well, but not sure about 1st team, so...

We loaned out Cruz to, effectively, Liga MX 2, but we could have loaned him out to a USL team also if Bruce wasn't gonna give him the time of day with the 1st team. Mendoza and Cano have played 3 or 4 years with the Quakes 2nd team. They've shown themselves to be good players at that level, and they're not really getting challenged anymore. I don't think it's all that helpful to have them play Next/Pro for a 4th or 5th year at this point. So again, if Bruce is not gonna be serious about giving them 1st team minutes, loan them out to USL and see if they can prove themselves at the next level.

So if that’s the case, college soccer , is still a good source to utilize.

It’s also free as opposed to the academy or academies.

Let’s just hope these college kids are able to produce a winning team.

Well if you’re a top academy player you’re already making 6 figures by the time you’re 16 /17 as a homegrown player. So there is that.
