You say Almada, and I say Almeyda. You say tomahta, and I say tomayta. Almada, Almeyda, tomahta, tomayta, let’s call the whole thing off.

He can't send the interpreter out to take a card for him for dissent. :)

Ii thought that he wanted to take a break from coaching. Maybe he's just addicted to the adrenaline rush and would quickly find himself very bored w/o a coaching job. He could have just waited a few weeks and he might have the USMNT job :).

Sevilla finished 17th in La Liga last season, with 41 points (1 point above relegation), let's see how Almeyda fares in the toughest league he's ever coached in.

Hmm, interesting that he'd take another hard job. You'd think he'd have learned his lesson and just take almost guaranteed success gigs like AEK. Maybe Sevilla is promising to pour $ into the team, who knows.

Speaking of Chofis looks like he hasn’t been playing much for Pachuca in the last year or so. I don’t know if he’s been injured. But he’ll also be 31 soon, maybe his career is winding down.

Man to man marking will not work in La Liga. This aught to be interesting.

I remember speaking with Almeyda about when he played in Sevilla.

He only played one season and they were relegated.

Then he went to Italy , signed with Lazio and became the Serie A player of the year.

He helped them win a scudetto in 2000 and was then transferred to Parma.

During my 20s, 30s, and 40s I pretty much told myself every day when I got out of the house something analogous to the Lakota "Hoka Hey" or the Klingon Heghlu'meH QaQ jajvam. I guess I don't feel quite as feisty anymore...

Agree it will be interesting...but just to mention a couple of managers recently who do use man marking in one way or another are Gasparini who won the Europa league just over a yr ago with Atalanta and then there's Bielsa who also coaches very much in that style. It's not like it's not done at all in Europe but yes I agree with you that it's not used much and it will be interesting to say the least.

Almeyda had a role similar to Bruce's. He was effectively the sporting director (deciding who we'd acquire), and the coach. Bruce has shown himself to be way more successful. And the only real spending increase was Hernán, who hasn't played much this year.

Almeyda didn't win the spoon for us but he shares in our Western Conference spoon of 2022.

For the record, here are the head coaches to date who’ve “won” San José the MLS Wooden Spoon:

    • 1997: Laurie Calloway / Brian Quinn
    • 2000: Lothar Osiander
    • 2008: Frank Yallop
    • 2018: Mikael Stahre / Steve Ralston
    • 2024: Luchi Gonzalez / Ian Russell

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! :(

Just to chime in, Agustin Zalazar worked for Almeyda at AEK but was not an interpreter, his role was Video Analyst.
