This sounds awful. A friend of my son’s impaled himself while trying to walk on top of an iron fence. Was a very very long recovery.
Was that stunt preceded by a friend saying, "I bet you don't have the balls to walk along the top of that wrought iron fence"!

Watched the third place game, Colombia vs Peru. Lopez played well, until Cuadrado focused on the game. Good game overall, and great experience for him

Goodbye Marcos Lopez Forever Black & Blue. ⚫️🔵NEWS: Earthquakes transfer defender @20Marcos_Lopez to @Feyenoord.We wish Marcos the best of luck & can't wait to follow his journey in Europe!— San Jose Earthquakes (@SJEarthquakes) August 8, 2022 Hopefully we look back on this as a big moment, a talented young player bought from Latin America and developed by the Quakes into one of the best at his position in MLS, and sold to a relatively big club in Europe. We have no official word on the transfer fee (just that it's "club-record" which doesn't mean much given how new the Quakes are to the player development game), but hopefully that gets reported by the media because without that info it's tough to judge the move... NEWS: Earthquakes Transfer Defender Marcos Lopez to Feyenoord The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that the club has transferred defender Marcos Lopez to Feyenoord of the Dutch Eredivisie for an undisclosed club-record fee.

Right move. Record transfer fee for #Quakes74. The start of the virtuous cycle begins. Keep it going. https://t.co/uyJxSg7shV— JMoore Quakes (@JmooreQuakes) August 8, 2022 A huge congratulations to one of the nicest people out there. Marcos deserves this opportunity, and San Jose now has it’s player-development proof of concept.Feyenoord’s last left back, Tyrell Malacia, just joined Manchester United for $16.5 million in June. https://t.co/6rCB0ibOnd— Jake Pisani (@JPisani28) August 8, 2022 After the Gaga Slonina deal was announced, I wrote that the Chicago Fire should be much closer to the FC Dallas/Union end of the develop-and-sell-talent spectrum than they are. The same goes for the Quakes. Hopefully this is the start of something new for San Jose. https://t.co/GqHUEsnETY— Joseph Lowery (@joeclowery) August 8, 2022
It was super cool of Marcos Lopez to appear and sign autographs for Quakes fans while knowing he had played his last game for us. Huge props to him.
He came to San Jose with great potential & worked tirelessly to become a world-class player. Now, he's headed to @Feyenoord, a massive club in Europe.Incredibly proud of you, @20Marcos_Lopez. pic.twitter.com/W1iilqeLbU— San Jose Earthquakes (@SJEarthquakes) August 8, 2022
To me Lopez was a good player but not w/o gaps in his game. The good: super calm on the ball and rarely lost it not bad as a defender - not great but not bad unusually good with his head for a FB / winger, and I didn't notice until the very end he had really good hops The not so good: very one-footed, will do anything to avoid his right foot almost never played wide and crossed the ball from wide positions - he always wanted to cut in. Typically attacking play - cut in and run for 10-15 yards, stop and try to pick out a pass. pace was OK but not great
I know this is likely the only strategy that can work for the Quakes, long term, but I'm sad now that this is complete
