Urena nothing but a hound dog, Scoring all the time... Dude is absolutely on fire. If only he'd be on fire for the Quakes :-(.
The forward lineups have changed so often lately that it's hard to say for sure. I honestly think Urena never got a good chance to settle in. He played quite a bit early in the season under Kinnear, whose teams couldn't score if the other team walked off the field. Since then, he hasn't gotten on the field very often. I would say let the guy actually get some minutes in the new system, playing 70 minutes in a few games in a row, to see how he combines with Vako and Hoesen, perhaps. Take Wondolowski off if need be. I think a lot of why players don't score for SJ is exactly because Wondolowski is on the field instead of someone who can actually help build up plays more reliably. Sometimes Wondolowksi will surprise you with a nice give and go pass or something, but I don't think he's the kind of player that makes others around him better, rather he's the one who becomes the black hole of the offense.
https://streamable.com/hx0dj 3 goals in two games against the US and Mexico over five days... 4 goals all season for the Quakes?
As I mentioned above, I think mismanagement is a likely culprit for why this is, at least in part. It could also be a case of the guy getting his goals bunched together and he'll go cold streak in the near future. I don't think it's uncommon for goals to be unequally distributed among minutes played.
Maybe Urena got contact lenses? He used to suck at scoring for Costa Rica as recently as the Gold Cup. It ain't the Quakes, it's Urena.
He has scored a goal every 5 matches played in for the Quakes, one every four matches for Costa Rica. Not a big difference. (No, Jazzy, I don't know the goals per 90 minutes number).
Well you should know the per 90 # because "per match" is not very useful, unless you think that a guy can score a goal while sitting on the bench. His per 90 scoring rate is now close to 2x for CR nats. So yes it is a big difference I would say.
I think Urena has to start and hopefully he stays on fire. But somehow with all the work done by Jesse on the attack, we've ended up with too much investment in forwards and not enough in center backs.
Urena does something worth noticing and you just happen to be the first to post here. You're amazing!
You mean when when Marco got pissed at Dom who took him out after he scored which resulted in getting himself fired? Yeah I'd say that was pretty amazing... Anyway, lighten up as I was mostly kidding...
I'm hoping Urena comes back from his CR duty fired up! I think it would be wise for CL to play him -- generally, a coach is going to use a player who has a hot hand - but we'll have to see.
Well it could be one of 2 things: 1) he stays hot, or 2) he's "used up" his goals for the next 2 months. It's like the stock market. When the market is going up, do you buy in to ride the wave or has it already peaked and you're going to ride the fall.
Yep, especially with former Quakes Beita and Morrow in the mix, not to mention the venerable Jason Hernandez.
When Urena scored against LA I got nervous re US Costa Rica match. I felt he was really lacking confidence for both the quakes and the ticos - he was a horrow show in the gold cup. As bummed as I was about the US game, I think this is nothing but good for the quakes when he returns
Marco's ability and willingness to run at defenders sets him apart from Wondo. Same for Hoesen and Vako. Play them all.
Actually, that's one of the reasons we need to keep him. We have four strikers with four different styles, and this is not going to make it easy for our opponents, particularly if CL starts not playing Wondo every minute. We'll have a lot of looks we can put together with four to fill two spots.
