I don't think it is Fisher in this one. I think Luchi wants to make things right with the group that has worked together. Bringing in Brown made perfect sense because the previous goalkeeper coach (post Almeyda) could not speak English and could not keep up with the drills. He was terrible! Brown is a great addition and may even bring this group in to this century in team management. Russell did not want to move his family AGAIN so he did not work with the Quakes then. I do not think he would have gotten along with Matias, anyway. Quakes have been a disorganized group for years and can only improve in that department. Maybe the "new" guys can help the "old" guys make it a better, cohesive team because that is what they need. If he can't get the improvement needed, then Luchi should look for his own assistants.
Ian's single and was dating a bitch from LA for a short while during the end of his Reno into his TFC time.
Wait why are people complaining about the coaching staff? The assistant coaches may be the #2 strength of the team behind the academy. Unfortunately the owner and current players are not lol and the jury is out on Luchi but he probably isn't either. Ideally you probably do NOT want your #2 strength to be your assistant coaches, there are definitely far more important things... but the point is it makes no sense to complain about them.
Right. Our first preseason game is in a few weeks and we have how many open senior roster spots? 5? 7? Doesn’t seem like assistant coaching staff and losing Matt Bersano for nothing are our biggest problems right now.
We tried to trade for Jimmy Mauer and failed. We tried to sign Hedges and failed. We tried to sign Long and failed. We cut Tommy Thompson and passed.
Varas has a lot of potential...currently in the US fold with the U20s I believe...probably not a popular opinion here in Quake land, but I'd rather have Varas than Ralston...but the overall staff is solid Imo, with or without Ralston...no biggy.
Well yeah but Mikey Varas isn't leaving the U-20s to be an assistant coach for the Quakes. Hell Varas should probably be running the upcoming USMNT January camp, he's certainly earned it over Anthony Hudson by qualifying the US for both the U-20 World Cup and their first Olympics in 16 years. But Steve Ralston is just fine as one member of the deep bench of assistants.
Yeah, he isn't leaving the U20s anytime soon...going back to being Luchi's assistant isn't part of his future career path, I agree, i'd much rather see him guide the team at camp cupcake than Hudson.
There's a short article in the Mercury News(!) by a writer I'm not familiar with (Jesús Cano - any relation to Alejandro Cano?) about Luchi - it's more or less his former players at FCD and USMNT praising him. I think it's paywalled but not sure. Anyway, here's one of the quotes: “He’s really good, especially young players,” Inter Miami’s Yedlin said. “I think San Jose is very fortunate to have him. He’s really a great, great coach and also an unbelievable guy. Hopefully has a lot of success. https://www.mercurynews.com/2023/01...ew-quakes-coach-for-developing-young-players/
Not related to my knowledge, but there appears to be a Cano everywhere these days. Dallas Next Pro has signed one to coach their team. Welcome to North Texas, Javi!We have named Javier Cano as our Head Coach ahead of the 2023 season. 📰 https://t.co/n7flvHOW3B pic.twitter.com/u3btUsjqag— North Texas SC (@northtexasSC) January 12, 2023 I wish we’d stop screwing around and sign our Cano before he goes elsewhere like too many academy players have done recently.
If things don't work out with Luchi it's worth noting that his former assistant coach and the current US U-20 coach Mikey Varas is a local... https://glenncrookssoccer.com/blog/a-conversation-with-usmnt-u-20-head-coach-mikey-varas-part-i In November, 2021, Mikey Varas was named head coach of the U.S. U20 Men’s National Team. Varas is a native of San Francisco and played at the University of San Francisco over four seasons. He coached youth soccer at De Anza Force and the Sac Republic Academy (where he was named U.S. Soccer Development Academy West Conference Coach of the Year with the U14’s). After rooming with Luchi Gonzalez while taking his U.S. Soccer “A” License, he was eventually summoned to FC Dallas where he started as head coach of the U16’s and then joined head coach Gonzalez as a first team assistant.
I kmow Mikey Varas!!!! Really good dude. Genious mind. Very smart. Letich would have to consider him, they really dont like anything De Anza becuase their direct competion. The Natipnal A: Youth and National A Pro licensing class was, is and forever will be retarded. Its 1000000% asshole. You gotta be a real f*ckin thick skinned bitch to survive. Its like frat boys amped up to 100000. I had Jon Conway in my class.
