That's funny, because I looked Nerissa up to see what she's doing and her specialty was anesthesia (clearly my memory is not what it should be) but now she's running what looks like a vanity clinic doing cosmetic procedures. Her husband (with whom I coached basketball back in the day) has a music business in Chico, hanging out there might be more fun than getting your knees done which is apparently painful
Depending on your anesthesiologist and the manner in which your surgeon does it. The technique has evolved much in the past few years. The incisions have gotten smaller, the equipment to do the actual cutting has gotten more accurate so they take less bone out and the implants fit better. My wife is the Ortho Specialist RN at her hospital so she keeps me informed of the cool "new tools" the Ortho guys get. They are using 3d scans and ct scans to orientate the cuts and fitting of the implants. A lady had a hip replacement was out of the hospital the next day walking with the help of a cane the following week. It's amazing how much replacement joint surgery/recovery has improved in just the past 5 years or so.
The anesthesia for my first and only (so far) adult surgery left me with myasthenia gravis - which is incurable - so it does pay to be choosy when seeing an anesthesiologist!
I had a great anesthesiologist with my first c-section and she had me sign up for a study on fentanyl, back before most of us had heard of it. I was feeling no pain. She came by when I was back for the second time and said "oh, sorry, I have to go to a meeting" but then introduced me to her cousin who was also an anesthesiologist and also awesome. One of my mom friends had a resident anesthesiologist, and she said his hand was shaking as he held the needle. Given that those spinal injections can paralyze you if done wrong, she was way more zen about it than I would have been. My mom had one knee done 11 years ago, and I've never seen her in pain like that. She's considering getting the second one fixed. So I figure my knees will eventually give out and I'm glad there are improvements in the techniques. Meanwhile, last I heard from Kait, she was back at the hospital and not doing well.
Apparently she may have lung damage, and pulmonologists are scarce in that part of the world. At least it sounds as though they aren't just blowing her off.
He's the best in the North State, please let Kait know. and most importantly: Accepting New Patients https://doctor.webmd.com/doctor/dinesh-verma-5eda726d-9213-4396-93c6-90c620cf1ee2-overview
Just no one start talking about pathologist relatives. (WAITED UNTIL SOMEONE REPORTED SHE'S DOING BETTER)
My mom had hip replacement at 80 and was walking around at home the next day. She as like, "meh, no biggie". I know many people that have had knee replacement, one, (who had it about 70) could be called the "poster child" for that surgery, was running about 3-4 months later. Another had major complications that that took well over a painful year to finally clear up, and there were others in between those two in how quickly they recovered. My sister had it and mentioned there was a lot of pain to deal with.
Orthopeds are known for their egos. I had to push back against my mother's doctor because he didn't want to do anything for her painful knee -- the one that he didn't fix 11 years ago. He agreed to do hyaluronic injections after I persisted, but my sense is that he thinks she's too old. She is old, but she's very active, normally walks a lot, lives in a two-story townhouse, and it's hard not to have everything working. She doesn't run, though, or even try!
I didn’t say she was running very far. And to note, of those that had the surgery she was the thinnest, not carrying any extra weight, those with the longer recoveries were overweight.
I'm back people for now, My lungs are heavy and I'm on very heavy antibiotics at the moment, I have fluids in my lungs from long term vaping and smoking mixed with multiple cases of covid over the past couple years. Thankfully I do not smoke anymore because I'm convinced it would kill me. The medical field in Redding is absolute dog shit, horse shit and everyone is stuck in 1945. I can't stand it, I got the runaround the mill for days on end and medication changed three times. Thankfully @TyffaneeSue helped me out in more ways then one. She's a better mother then my own shit bag mother. I see all your messages and texts and I feel very loved to see all the concern. This is my social life, and friend circle here so I'm grateful. I struggled though he last quakes game kept falling asleep in and out, i've lost almost 12 pounds, I haven't been eating, still not really eating but drinking water. Financially I've been set back since I've had to cancel out on 4 or 5 big pay out events to coordinate and missed out on big weekend MLS Ticket resales so thats where I am. I miss my baby a lot he is staying with a former MLS/USL player at the moment who has been contacted by Ian Russell for 2025 already. So we'll see waht that means Anyways HELLO PEOPLE
