Maybe compared to the previous owners, but I don't like his attitude for a big team like Chivas. Not saying he deserves all the shit that opposing( and our own) fans throw at him, but he's far from ideal. Huge props for the stadium and youth movement, though.
There have been no "previous owners," the club went from A.C. to S.A. de C.V. after Jorge Vergara purchased Chivas from the club members (Socios). Before that the club had been under management of "La Promotora" which had Mexlub chairman Salvador Martinez Garza at the forefront. Under A.C the club Socios could vote on who the president would be or decide against the management of La Promotora. Now, Vergara makes all the calls and he can do with the club as he likes. That said, compared to La Promotora he has done no better (Sporting wise). The cantera project started with La Promotora; there were even a few canteranos in the squad that won the club's 10th league championship. El Guero Real, and even Hans, helped lay the foundation of what was to become Chivas current system before Vergara bought the team. Vergara did help clear the clubs financial state which had led to the club being managed by La Promotora and eventually sold. I do believe that there was much corruption within the institution and the Socios had no f'ing clue how to run the club (this is pretty much what is happening to Atlas, the last remaining A.C club in Mexico). IMO, Chivas debt's cleared out once the crooked socios were out of the picture. Given the club's popularity all the million dollar contracts, sponserships, were there for the taking. It is not like Vergara used money from the Omnilife coffers to buy the team or pay off the clubs debt's. He didn't even have enough money to purchase the club in the first place; he used money from Televisa's television deal (just to show how f;ing retarded the Socios were). I used to be high and mighty on our beloved owner; he came in and appeared to be a saviour but that was all smoke and mirrors once the dust settled and the reality of it all settled in. Let us keep in mind that Vergara came into the club knowing nothing about football, he was not even a fan and his first venture into the MFL was as sponser for Atlas. So it was that Vergara allowed the club to be managed by people that knew what they were doing; mainly Nestor and Frangie. This is how Chivas brought back Hans and Real and was able to bring in top players like; Bofo, Carmona, Palencia, Pineda, and Diego Martinez. All of these players were top players when they came to Chivas and in their prime. And then the 11th star. What happened next; Vergara has pretty much gotten rid of everyone that helped rebuild the club. The only one left is Real and he is about to jump ship. IMO, Real should have a permanent role within Chivas. And now the club is mediocre and management has been handed over to foreigners. This is no different that when Vergara rallied around Sven Goran and that didn't go too well. Do we really need a Todd Beane (someone care to name me his accomplishments as a general manager) when we had a Nestor and a Lebrija. Do we need a Van't Schip when we had Chepo or even a Hugo Sanchez (who is now at Pachuca along with Hans). Do we need the other guys when we have a f'ing gem in Real whos is beyond proven at the club. What we need is pretty f'ing obvious; its a new owner or at the very least a club president that knows how to run a club..
I can't tell you if we do or don't need these guys. I think its a bit late at this point. It is going to take a while for the team to get the picture and full understanding of what it is they want. I would give him about a full year to prepare the team. Give them carte blanche so they can't say we weren't able to do this or so and so would was unwilling to release his authority for reason X and thus have not achieved our goals. I really think the best deal for Real is to put up with them, if they succeed he is in the right place to take some credit for the youth players he identified. If they don't succeed he is still there. He put up with Vergara for so long... We are fortunate in that the relegation system allows for a lot of error. Although, it worries me how close the team is to being in a relegation battle. Hopefully, Vergara has some money in his ass to pull it if we do. Because he will have to fork out to save the team. What worries me more is how the Chivas guys are being forced out of the club. Particularly, Real. Two thoughts. The first is Cryuff underestimated the strength of the league and has appointed unproven talent to run the club. From youth academy to club management. This isn't the same league Hans came into and surprised. It has improved in alot of aspects because of the foresight the FMF has had. Second, when Cryuff became manager of Barcelona and introduced his changes he didn't perform a fire sale of personnel. Instead he brought them along with him and the club has been better for it. Would Barcelona be the same if Carles Rexach had left the team then? The other side of the coin is Vergara has forced alot of the Chivas ex-players out and there really is no hope for a remedy of this from a fan's perspective. ------------------------------------------------------------ Did Vergara lose the Toyota sponsorship? Does Carlos Slim still hold the mortgage slip on the Stadium or team as well?
"La promesa de ser el mejor del mundo es a diez años y lo vamos a cumplir" "Quiero al equipo dirigido por el mejor entrenador del mundo, me importa un pepino si viene de la luna, pero que sea el mejor que pueda dirigir a Chivas" "Quiero que la camiseta esté limpia de toda publicidad" "Un equipo como Chivas necesita los mejores jugadores mexicanos y contrataremos los que sean necesarios"
Awesome post. I was stoked when Lebrija came. But that ended pretty fast. Why bring someone who is more than proven and not let him do his thing?
There is no point in working for that man. At the end of the day he's gonna do what he wants because he's the owner. Its a circus. There is nothing we can do. Boycotting won't make a dent to his revenue. We're better off hiring a hit man lol
