Honestly , with the exception of maybe Jebo, no one on the Quakes really deserved to be selected to the all star game.
I think a case can be made for Monteiro - he is in the top 10 or so in assists and has more goals than most of those guys. And he goes 120% every game, all game. Competition is tough in that position but I think the coaches around the league understand what he brings even if the Quakes BigSoccer "braintrust" doesn't. Nashville’s coach was giving him high praise for example: Gary Smith: "Like Monteiro an awful lot. Very very talented player, very industrious player."
Some things don't change... Here is a photo from 4 years ago.... Banner placed by fans wanting John Fisher out as owner of the San Jose Earthquakes displayed during game against Real Salt Lake on 7/28/2018!
I remember one game the guy who sells Fisher out scarves displayed a sign like this one before the game. Security then chased him all around the stadium. He weaved between the concourse and the seats, up and down the aisles and across the rows. It was like watching the keystone cops.
You know, what we need are T-shirts that look exactly like that sign. It would be great if Fisher walked to his seat and saw a lot of people wearing them. I wear my Fisher Out scarf every game, but its message is not that visible when it is hanging around my neck!
I really can’t understand John Fisher. Why would he or anyone in his circle (not to mention in the single entity league office) be happy with the current Quakes situation? I mean it is one thing to lose for a few years here and there but to have and/or allow 10 consecutive losing seasons (more or less) is just ludicrous. He deserves credit for bringing back the club an building the stadium but the way he has ran it all into the ground is a complete disgrace. When I watch other expansion teams come in and have greater success than what the Quakes put forth, I can't understand the logic. It all makes little sense.
When we were resurrected, Lew Wolff was in charge, and he gave a crap. Since he bailed, we've seen raw Fisherism. He's shit and he doesn't care, at all. This team has made me happy, joyous even, and also angry, depressed, sad, and even ashamed. They are starting to make me disinterested. I can think of other things to do with my time than watch this shit show. The local community college soccer season is starting. I think I'll go Monday, if it's not too hot. It's been in the 90s for weeks! Looks like maybe 78F at kickoff. There's no shade at all at the soccer field. Hmmm. I might have to take an umbrella. Shit. Still, I'm more likely to see the homeside win. Go Quakesfans!! F@#$ Fisher!!
That's where i'm at too. In 2018 I was pissed off at all the mistakes we made. This year I'm just losing interest because I feel like no real effort is being made. Hopefully we see the fruits of throwing this season away next year, but they kinda have to win my interest back.
Us fans dedicate 2 hrs a week maybe 4 to watch our favorite team play and all we get like you said is shit. I mean shouldn't an owner care what their fans think? I guess a lot do, but we unfortunately have one who doesn't.
Guys, talk me down from the ledge. I think I'm going to become an LAFC fan. The only thing I would miss out on is going to the games, but I don't like buying tickets because every dollar I spend on tickets is merely a plink on top of the large pile of Fisher's coins.
Next year, St. Louis City SC playing in a brand-new venue, Centene Stadium with a capacity of 22,500 will most likely be a huge success. I can’t imagine that a city like St Louis with their soccer history, won’t want a winning team right off the bat. I don't know what kind of signings they will bring in but I’m almost sure they will surpass San Jose.
Their stadium is looking pretty decent. Out door bar is cool and all, but I wish the Quakes close off the stadium. Not only would it keep the sound in better but would feel more professional. If The Quakes were better, they would sell more tickets and Fisher would make more money.
I read you loud and clear Don, but most of my fellow San Jose sports fans don't give two shits about the Quakes.
If we had an owner who would not be so damn stingy and spend some money things would probably different. But here we are with the Cheapest owner in sports owning 2 teams in one of the richest parts of the country barely spending any money at all.
There were years when San Jose didn’t have a team and I was known to the city’s entire establishment (ie, the Baseball San José crowd), as the crazy dude who wanted to bring back the Quakes. My eccentricity became my identity. And I was vindicated.
