Yeah ok but for fans watching the game and the atmosphere , it was great. Whether it’s nostalgia or whatever , I never had fun at Stanford, Levi’s or PayPal like I had at Spartan.
Yes. The great thing about Spartan was how close the fans were to the action. I usually sat on the east side in the first or second row. The enemy could hear me loud and clear. PayPal has the bulk of the fans too far from the field. It’s a stupid design. Go Quakesfans!!
Unless the ball was down the near sideline within 20 yards of the corner where the action became invisible to anybody sitting on the pressbox side..
Yeah - none of them are/were ideal for watching soccer. The atmosphere at Spartan was amazing, but honestly, the size of the pitch and the sight-lines sucked.
When they built Levi’s and re-built Stanford, I’m sure the architects and/or whomever was in charge had soccer in mind and they should have extended or lengthened the sidelines on each side. They could have done it from scratch at that point. I am surprised FIFA hasn’t weighed in about this as they are hosting WC matches at Levi’s next June.
They did the widening for the World Cup earlier this year, which is why the game was yesterday instead of in May.
Maybe they should now be chanting "[someone] buy the team" since it is for sale and we "just" need a buyer.
If that is the case, why is everyone still complaining about the sidelines at Levi's? I didn't watch the game last night as I was in church so I can't judge but if they improved it, then good for them.
I don't know if anybody who actually attended is complaining about it? Either way, enlarging the pitch to World Cup standards doesn't necessarily mean the view from the stands is better.
When I saw a soccer games at both Stanford and Levi’s, I couldn't see the sidelines and as I recall, a lot of people complained about it. Which reinforces my initial statement.... You would think whomever was in charge of constructing both stadiums , will have had soccer in mind and lengthened each side of the field.
Pretty sure that Levi's was not designed "with soccer in mind". Same with Stanford. These are tunnel-visioned football people.
The point is, they should have known and thought about it and how could they not? All Bay Area WC games in 1994 were held at Stanford. Each game was sold out and it turned out to be very successful venue. I’m sure someone , somehwere must have thought or believed at some point more soccer games will have been played there in the future. Same thing about Levi's. Whomever built it, they had to know that stadium will have been chosen as the main BAY AREA venue if the USA were awarded the finals and I don't understand how they couldn't. I think all of us knew and thought that the WC games will have been played at Levi's and where else will they play the games if not there? As for PayPal, although it hasn't been mentioned yet, I'm sure they will use it as a training venue for WC teams come 2026 similar to Buck Shaw in 1994.
They should have thought about it. But I doubt they did. They were likely solving for American football all the way. And here they are, able to make a few modifications for a US-hosted World Cup that was not known to be a thing when they built the stadium (2012-2014), and they're in. No harm no foul.
NFL owners generally don't care about international soccer. They'll spend the money to put in natural turf and widen corners if something big like the WC comes up, but otherwise they design for football. SoFi knew the WC was a real possibility during the design phase but still had to fix the corners. Raiders' stadium in Las Vegas is too small as well for top tier international matches even though gold cup has played there.
Doesn’t the NFL owner who built SoFi also own a MLS soccer team? Then there’s Bob Kraft and Art Blank and Haslam who double dip. That’s more than 10 percent of MLS owners right there.
I don't think Levi's was designed with any humans period, let alone soccer fans. It feels like a totally pointless and unappealing edifice.
No human thought and it cost $1.3 billion in 2014 or what is $1.73 billion today to build Levi's. So how much would they have spent if they had thought behind it?
Forgot to mention the Bills’ new NFL stadium currently under construction is reportedly modeled on Tottenham’s and LAFC’s.
Was Fisher at the game yesterday? I haven't seen Fisher at PPP all season -- altho i missed 5 home games, including the Messi game.
