There are threads for Tom Fox, Jesse Fioranelli, Matias Almeyda, etc. but not for Quakes owner John Fisher... Who is John Fisher? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_J._Fisher https://www.forbes.com/profile/john-fisher/ 1112119155036057600 is not a valid tweet id From Reddit: A rare John Fisher sighting at Avaya from today's 5-0 loss to LAFC: In the news... John Fisher scores huge windfall: Will anything change?
Act like an owner that cares about the product, on and off the field. At the very least, care like an owner who cares what Lars thinks. He cares, he’s written songs about the team. “Never Say Die”.
Thank you for starting the thread. I'm surprised it took 12 years to make one. I always wanted to start one but it seemed the more I complained about Fisher, the more apologetic posters on the board would defend him. Of course the problem with this team starts with him. I mean we have had to endure John Doyle, Frank Yallop, Mark Watson, Dom Kinnear, Leitch, Stahre, Fioranelli and now Almeyda. Can they be all that bad or should we start pointing the finger at Fisher?
Yes. He owns a soccer team in the top flight...if there was pro/rel, look out he’d bail out on us in a NYCFC minute.
Owner: Shareholders of Celtic plc (LSE: CCP) Celtic FC is a PLC, Fisher is just a shareholder and has no control over the team. Apparently their largest individual shareholder is some Irish dude named Dermot Desmond.
Meanwhile, the new Crew ownership group... I want to thank @DrPeteEdwards1 for being the best owner in sports. He picked up and drove me and my friend into the stadium to get out of the rain. What a great guy. @DegenerateTBone @ColumbusCrewSC— Tyler Sage (@ringoftyler) March 31, 2019 All I want for my birthday is an MLS Cup but 3 points today would be a great start! I think more people were commenting on you saying we needed to hear from Fisher. Like that would magically make things better. What if he spoke and we didn't like what we heard? I don't need to see or hear from him, I just want him to operate this team likes he gives a damn.
That’s you but many other fans would love to hear from their owner. Especially now by reading the boards, of course they do. On the other hand, he can continue staying silent and make himself be heard by just being involved and producing a winner or even positive results, for that matter. That’s true of most sports owners but he doesn’t do either. He hasn’t given us fans any assurances or news since he bought the club 12 years ago. We haven’t heard a word from the ownership since Lew Wolff retired or was bought out. Heck even Lew once said he “didn’t care what fans thought” in regards to firing Yallop. All he does is communicate through his GM’s and we all blame them but who hired them in the first place and/or who is at fault if they fail?
This is just from a few weeks ago, March 15, 2019 ... Carl Lindner III talks FC Cincinnati, family with Tanya O'Rourke before ...
What if he sells it and someone like former Warriors owner Chris Cohen buys the team. Very slippery slope.......
Whomever he sells to, as long as he keeps the team in town, he can't do any worse than what we see now...
This is the actual problem right here, the rot begins and ends here, we have the second worst owner in mls begins Anthony precourt
As stated in the poll above, I think Fisher should bring in more owners, kind of like what you see with (gulp) LAFC. Perhaps we could get a minority owner who can act as the face of the team (a Will Ferrell type) and who wants to win. My other idea would actually be one of the other major franchises of The Bay (Sharks, Warriors, Niners or Giants) become owners/investors in the Quakes.
"A minority owner who can act as the face of the team" was exactly what Lew Wolff was. If Fisher wants to bring in another ownership partner to take that role, he could do it, but it only matters if that partner does a good job. Will Ferrell is not an analogous example--he's basically a very rich mascot. He's not calling any shots, but he's a popular guy to trot out there for publicity's sake. The Quakes are already owned by the owner of another major Bay Area franchise. We can't magically make somebody else own them.
Of course we can't "magically" make anything happen, we're just sharing ideas here; relax FWIW, LAFC's ownership structure has elements of the Dodgers, Lakers and Warriors (?).
I want all of the first three options: should spend more money should fire Fox and/or Fioranelli should bring in additional owners If we can't have those, then I want number four: should sell the team is not the problem - Yes, he freaking is! is doing a great job! - No, he's freaking NOT! And no mistake, Fisher sets the budget but doesn't do much more than that. We need to see the very last of Jesse soon, and maybe Tom Fox as well. Go Quakesfans!! Fisher OUT!! - Mark
Amazing to hear everyone finally acknowledging what I’ve been saying in here for years, Fisher is the problem, he’s not some part of the problem. Nothing changes for San Jose until Fisher is gone, unless he has an epiphany and decides he wants to play ball, which I just don’t foresee.
The NYTimes had an interesting article about the disappointing ownership of the NY Knicks. A lot of the complaints sound so familiar: For the 2nd time in 5 years, the Knicks won only 17 games, a franchise low. The Knicks failed to make the playoffs for the 6th consecutive year, and the 12th time in the last 15 years. "It’s a staggering level of impotence for a team that spends as much money as it does and has all the inherent advantages of playing in New York City at Madison Square Garden." "That enduring failure, combined with [James L.] Dolan’s public mistreatment of some fans, has led to a growing anger and skepticism in a disaffected, if dedicated, fan base." Still, they average over 19,000 fans per game no matter how bad they have been "There is also a perception among fans and people in the league that prospective players want no part of the bungling Knicks because the team is mismanaged to a point where winning is nearly impossible." "Mills added that he and Perry were working hard to change the perception of the Knicks and that David Fizdale, the coach, was a draw for both players and fans by dint of his magnetic personality." “If [Kevin] Durant thinks playing for the Knicks is what’s best for his business and branding goals, Dolan’s reputation as an unpleasant, impulsive individual isn’t going to change that.” BTW, I'm not saying John Fisher is unpleasant or impulsive, i am sure he is the opposite. But the note about a player considering what is best for his brand in joining a team is interesting...
Fisher needs to seek out to big name , local high tech companies or investors to make them minority owners. LAFC is brand new and they already are top of the league and are doing everything right. Granted, they haven't won anything yet but its only their second year and we are in year 12. Whther they are silent partners or not, look at these names!
