Yeah, the USMNT has always had a record of taking Quakes players and damaging them either physically or mentally…
Except maybe for Wondo. Even after “the miss” I don’t think his club play suffered and in fact I think nats made him a better player on balance.
I know that handling it was a lot harder than he made it look - he’s referenced that a few times, but the end result is that he didn’t allow it to affect his play. If anything it made him better.
There are many things that set Wondo apart from any other player I've seen - and that is one. As passionate as he is on the field, he seems to know that there was, is, and will be life beyond the pitch. A very grounded human being.

"Jeremy Ebobisse on USMNT case, Portland exit, San Jose discovery & more" (MLSsoccer.com - Wednesday, 7/13/22) GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Really happy that things are going well for Jebo. Honestly when he had his dry spell, I was beginning to doubt that he had it, and worried that his concussion had made him too tentative. I was wondering what he did well as a striker. His combination and hold-up play has always been good. That part is underrated. But as a striker, what I was seeing was someone who blew opportunities trying to get the ball on his left foot, didn't seem to be able to out-duel big CBs for headers, had decent but not great speed, and didn't finish particularly well even with his left foot. But now I get it - he is not the fastest guy on a sprint, but he can sneak really quickly into spaces in the box, kind of cat-like, and finish. That's how most of his goals happen - quick movements in the box that defenders can't react to. And now I've seen him hit a few decent shots with his right, including last Saturday's goal.
I'm thrilled we have him, and that he's filling up the scoresheet. It's a great sign that there are so many Americans scoring goals in the league that a guy like Jebo can't get a sniff. I think there's a good chance he would struggle with the nats, in which case I'm grateful not to see the anger that would be directed at him on twitter.
I think he'd do well with the nats. His combo and holdup play, touch, etc. is good. And his finishing couldn't be worse than what Zardes, Pepi, and Ferreira have shown (outside of that one game Ferreira scored 4?). I'd say his biggest issue is a tendency to want to get the ball to his left foot when he gets it in the box. He's gotta do more one touch stuff and be more willing to finish with his right, like he did on his goal against Toronto. One touch - shot, that's it. At the intl level - against good teams, you don't have the luxury of futzing around.
The bar is pretty low at striker for the USMNT. I would hope we could do better than all of them. Bring back McBride.
Jebo’s Wikipedia page says he’s appeared in one USA friendly. So that means he’s still eligible to play for Cameroon? I don’t know which would be harder for him to get and stay on, USMNT or Cameroon…
Jeremy Ebobisse’s 13 goals in the first 24 games of 2022 is more prolific than Wondo’s 12 goals through 24 games during his breakout Golden Boot campaign in 2010, when he scored 18 in a 30-game season.
#MLS Unsung Heroes #2: Jeremy Ebobisse Imagine scoring 14 goals and not being an All-Star? Ebobisse has been incredible for the San Jose Earthquakes this season.-14 Goals, 2 Assists- 24% Conversion Rate-7 Left Footed Goals, 5 Right Footed, 2 Headed-82% Passing#Quakes74 pic.twitter.com/yy9OVcpVDW— MLS NETWORK (@mlsnetwork) August 15, 2022
It's really too bad Ebobisse wasn't selected as an all star. He very much deserved it. There were some players out there who very much did not. Why was Yedlin selected, for instance? He's been awful this year. Granted, I think players like Vela definitely did deserve it. It was a crowded year for goal scorers.
When Willie Mays made the Hall of Fame in 1979, there were 23 writers who didn’t vote for him. Twenty-three. Imagine what it must be like to be such a miserable prick. Better yet, don’t. pic.twitter.com/Ce9VaYydPb— Super 70s Sports (@Super70sSports) August 16, 2022
What does Willie Mays have to do with Jeremy Ebobisse? Ponder it a little more deeply than you are doing.
No players from bottom teams were selected to the all-star team with the one exception of Taxi from DC who won the MLS newcomer of the year award. If you want to go to the all-star game make sure your team is winning.
Yeah, but, what is that thing he wears around his neck? I'm actually serious! Sorry if it's already been written about here, but, at least one person sitting around us will ask that question every week. I'd love to be able to answer them!
It's called a "Q-collar". There some evidence that it can help reduce the risk of concussions. https://www.si.com/edge/2016/06/15/...hnology-qcollar-neck-wearable-football-hockey
