Steven Goff from WaPo: Jeremy Ebobisse not in uniform. Getting word of a trade to Earthquakes. https://t.co/iEzGYc7jsU— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) August 5, 2021 The Athletic: Timbers trade Jeremy Ebobisse to San Jose for $1.167 million in general allocation money The Portland Timbers are trading forward Jeremy Ebobisse to the San Jose Earthquakes for $1.167 million in general allocation money, according to a source with direct knowledge of the deal. That money will be split over two years, with the Timbers receiving $667,000 in GAM in 2022 and another $500,000 in 2023. In addition, Portland retains a 15 percent sell-on clause on Ebobisse for anything over the initial $1.167 million San Jose paid for him. Ebobisse is also expected to sign a new contract with the Earthquakes, sources said. Ebobisse was not in uniform on Wednesday night as the Timbers took on the Earthquakes. The Washington Post first reported the trade. The move will give Ebobisse a chance to feature as a No. 9 for San Jose, the position where he would have the best chance to break in with the U.S. men’s national team. He is currently behind two strikers on the depth chart in Portland — Felipe Mora and soon-to-return designated player Jaroslaw Niezgoda — and has been playing mostly on the wing for the Timbers.
Jeremy Ebobisse is headed to the San Jose Earthquakes for $1.167 million in GAM, per source. First reported by @SoccerInsider. Ebobisse forced to winger in PDX. Can be the No. 9 in San Jose. Salary cap situation played a role.Details on the trade: https://t.co/Ko5gJqq89P— Paul Tenorio (@PaulTenorio) August 5, 2021 Feels like win-win-win potential here. SJ get an MLS-experienced striker who has been successful. Portland gets big return without killing depth. Ebobisse gets chance to play up top and help value/USMNT prospects.— Paul Tenorio (@PaulTenorio) August 5, 2021
We needed this, desperately. This is a great move that we needed. Highly rated young player that needs a fresh start. I love it
This is exactly the type of trade many of us have been suggesting the Quakes need to be making... find proven MLS players who are currently undervalued or down in the depth chart. Even the freaking Colorado Rapids have been having success bringing in talent from around MLS. Obviously Jesse Fioranelli was too lazy or arrogant (or both) to bother scouting MLS, he's gone for just a few days and already the Quakes front office is actually doing their jobs! Lots of upset Timbers fans in the Reddit thread: https://old.reddit.com/r/MLS/comments/oy89rx/timbers_trade_jeremy_ebobisse_to_san_jose_for/
Everyone was wondering if Chris Leitch was going to be allowed to make a move. We were told he was able to.The consistent thing people say is Leitch has an "eye for talent". He just swung for the fences to become the permanent #Quakes74 CSO/GM. Now to see if pays off.— JMoore Quakes (@JmooreQuakes) August 5, 2021
Well, well, well, that's some good news indeed. So $1.1 million in GAM...or just over two Nick Lima's.
Guys guys guys, Ebobisse has a lot of talent but also has concussion problems. I’m guessing he won’t last long.
Almeyda on Ebobisse Join us live after #PORvSJ to talk about the #Quakes74 at the Timbers tonight and also the big news about Jeremy Ebobisse that came out just prior to the game! We'll also talk to Matias Almeyda and one or two players! #Quakes74https://t.co/a9dO8NPhkU— Quakes Epicenter (@QuakesEpicenter) August 5, 2021
Start him Sunday!! 24 years old 6'0 US Passport MLS experienced Not so damn hard Jesse!! https://www.timbers.com/players/jeremy-ebobisse/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Ebobisse Thank you Chris Leitch
And he did it, but did not need to to prove his worth, as he's proven his worth to the Quakes for many years in many roles. And now will you STFU about it?? As folks have been saying, it's the kind of move we've been missing for years - move to acquire a proven MLS player. You don't have to acquire intls to do everything. And we know how he plays in MLS; there is no question / risk.
he didn't need to prove his worth, for you. I saw it as a golden opportunity for him to make his case, an audition if you like, which he seems to have come through nicely. you were busy naysayin'...maybe it's you who should STFU?
I hope this helps set piece play on both ends of the field. Nathan has stepped it up and adding another guy that can win the aerial battles would be a huge boost in one of the weakest areas.
I never said that he shouldn't do it. I said that he didn't have to do it to prove himself. That's the difference. Anyone following the team, with even the smallest microscopic, sub-atomic spec of perceptiveness, can see that Leitch has proven himself over and over for the Quakes over several years in multiple roles.
