This Jackson guy was not the problem in US Open Cup... not sure how good he would be in MLS but given Yarbrough is statistically a bottom three goalkeeper in the league, and the Quakes are in dead last with nothing to play for, might as well give him a shot.
With (relatively) short keepers I always wonder how often those standing on head saves would be a lot more routine for more typically sized keepers. 3-4 inches of height / reach makes a big difference in a position that is a lot about inches. That said, clearly he can make a reaction save, as Emi can also, and Biegański has not looked bad either. At this point I’m not sure about Yarbrough’s ability to make a quick reaction save, i.e. a point blank shot or deflection.
San Diego FC really just took the worst of the three Quakes goalkeepers from 2024, having already added the worst goalkeeper in all of MLS from last season... guess they are not big on advanced goalkeeping stats. Bruce already down one of his Revs guys. 1867668148369207677 is not a valid tweet id 1867027166644539453 is not a valid tweet id
I doubt Bruce had a big connection to Jacob Jackson. He only played for Revs 2 before Bruce was suspended/fired/whatevered. And the Quakes declined his option.
Yes, although Il Bruce was NER's coach when they selected Jackson in the 1st round of the Superdraft in 2022. So he must have thought highly of him at one point.
Oh wow, didn't realize he was a first rounder. Talk about bad scouting. He didn't look good at all the 3 games or so he played. Kinda like Judd but at the other end. Wild how some of these guys keep getting chances when they clearly look out of depth. I guess a league like MLS with so many restrictions and a salary limit you've got no choice but to have players like these guys and hope they develop and become serviceable.
Who's the sad sack GK the Quakes drafted in the first round that sucked for us but went on to win MLS Cup with some other team?
Andrew “The Terrible” Tarbell. He won an MLS Cup with Columbus in 2020 but he only played 6 games or so with them, but 2 in the playoffs. He was in Austin the next year.
