Only if there's a market for him. Earlier free agency doesn't guarantee more leverage. Granted, the Quakes have actively been trying to create a market for Yueill. Almeyda has become something of an agent for the guy, based on his public comments. I'm still not sure that market really exists, though.

He's still a little ways away from free agency, correct? There's still a lot of time for things to change. I'd prefer the Quakes try to keep him if they can, but fully expect them to sell if there are buyers, based on what we currently know. The fate of player contracts is all totally out of our hands, so all we can really do is appreciate the players we enjoy while they're playing for San Jose.

If the reports that the Quakes have an option year for him through 2021 are correct, then he would be eligible for free agency after that season, as he would exactly meet the new requirements of age 24 and 5 years in the league.

I expect that he will be encouraged from the national team side of things to seek a transfer to Europe before then.

Right, so that's two whole seasons for Yueill's stock to rise or fall. That's a lot of time. It's not really worth worrying too much about right now. He's not going anywhere in 2020. If there's interest from abroad in 2021, the Quakes will sell him. If there isn't, they'll try to get him to sign an extension prior to free agency.

I have a feeling that if there isn't a market for Yueill outside the league, then he'll stay with the Quakes. I have a hard time buying the idea that MLS teams are suddenly going to start trying to outbid each other for current MLS players, even 24 year old ones. There are too many mechanisms that allow them to avoid it entirely. So if Yueill declines an extension offer, he'll be going into an untested market with a greater number of available players than in the past. That doesn't sound like a surefire win for him, so he'll have incentive to guarantee his future employment.

Then what happened? Did the defender recover and block his cross?

Awesome to hear...such an important player for us. He has a great coach for his development. Almeyda was a world class centermid.

Jackson is steadily improving on the defensive side...heavier on the ball with more aggression...great to see. He is flourishing under Almeyda.

    I couldn't be happier...

I'm glad he's staying. He's one of the few suspects who should stay without question.

That is a good possibility, Almeyda said when he started he would like to build up young players then sell them off.

Yuiell, Lima, Cowell, Akynrige, Lopez, and Marcinkowski would fit that bill.

We should give credit where credit is due. Yueill was picked by Jesse even though Kinnear was not convinced. Alashe was Kinnear’s guy.

Nice callout. I'm happy that Yuell has signed a longer term contract. While he has struggled this year, I'm still optimistic long term that he will be a quality player for the Quakes.

I saw the announcement on the website just after the win last night. How awesome is this! Making Jackson a team captain earlier in the week is making more sense. This kid's the real deal. Start the re-building around him.

Deserved. He's our Toni Kroos and, along with Judson, vital to our team. Kroos and Casemiro ;)

I love that analogy as a RM fan. I really like how Toni Kroos controls the game and tempo with his calmness, passing, vision and organization. Now we just need to find our Modric, which has been sorely missed in our team for the longest time.

Earlier in the season I believe Matias did say he thinks JY's future is to be playing in Europe.....

Maybe Fulham....at one time didn't they have 3 or 4 US players on the rooster at one time....(Dempsey, McBride, Keller......) would be nice to see more US players in the EPL again...
