ChatGPT to the rescue (and absolutely no surprises): Lack of Investment: The San Jose Earthquakes' struggles are largely due to ownership's insufficient financial commitment, particularly under John Fisher, resulting in weaker rosters and infrastructure compared to other MLS clubs. Ineffective Management: Poor decisions by General Manager Chris Leitch and a need for a strategic overhaul in the front office have hindered the club's progress, with a call for a proven sporting director to establish a long-term vision. Coaching Instability: Frequent coaching changes and inconsistent philosophies have led to lackluster performances, with current and past coaches failing to build a cohesive and successful tactical system Fan Engagement Issues: Low fan engagement and transparency issues have exacerbated the club's challenges, requiring better outreach, improved stadium experiences, and stronger connections with local soccer communities. Youth Academy and Analytics: The underperformance of the youth academy and failure to adopt modern analytics have contributed to the club's woes. Emphasizing youth development and data-driven strategies is crucial for long-term success.
Agree good article. She's not even a Quakes fan I think. She wrote basically what we've all been saying for a while now...
We need “improved stadium experiences”? I have no issue with my stadium experience other than the crap I see being played on the field.
I have no major issues. I would like the music to be turned down and improve the field conditions (so many players slipping), but that is pretty much it.
Yes, the music is too loud. I started bringing earplugs. Crazy George - that whole schtick is super stale at this point but what else do we have? It's worse w/o him.
Some players that'll be available most likely in the off season...doubt we'll drop some serious coin on any of them but there are some decent defenders. https://www.givemesport.com/top-mls-free-agents-2025-season/
A Back line of Kikanovic, Parker, Long, Costa would be orgasmic and a wet dream. Rusnak would also be a great pick up, and I love that KC Wizards jersey so much.
If they're really trying to hire Gregg Berhalter... have they watched the USMNT over the last year? Imagine how this would look without a last second own goal by Jamaica!
The gold cup failure was more on the players, especially tim weah and his naïve red card, than berhalter.
Russell coaching for his job would be the most obvious explanation as to why he is running out such a tired old lineup instead of giving younger guys a shot when the season has been over for months... that the result was a 3-0 loss, and the team looks no better under Ian than it did under Luchi... hope he isn't able to salvage it.. let him go to Quakes 2 if he wants to keep coaching here. I don't get it. This could have been San Jose's opening-day lineup!!!Profoundly disappointed Russell is not playing more of the academy players or experimenting with different tactical systems. Don't see how anyone gains from running this setup again. https://t.co/iCDNE9sa5S— Alex Morgan (@alexosmorgan) September 28, 2024 This is without a doubt the biggest waste of a soccer game I’ve ever seen.Absolutely useless to lose 3-0 with a team full of old, out of contract players playing in an unoriginal formation.Pathetic showing that indicates deep failure at every level of the organization. https://t.co/73wRZn0fsf— Alex Morgan (@alexosmorgan) September 29, 2024
Ian said that CL doesn’t tell him who to play. If CL felt confident in *his* job he could tell Ian to play young guys to start setting us up for next year. Ian did say that he will mix it up the last 3 games.
Some of the young players arent eligible to travel either. Riley Lynch and Beau LeRoux can only be called up so many times since there 2nd team players. A few teams ran into this issue already this year.
Good point. I think Lynch has only been called up once. Beau maybe a couple of times. Cruz is on the 1st team roster. Ricketts has been traveling with the team. I guess Ian feels like he’s not ready. He was out a long time.
Do you risk injuring Ricketts and having ling term issues (Opara, Tracy) thankfully Opara got healthy eventually. Or sit him in a washed year? They shut Wade Barrett and Ronald Cerritos down in 2000, only smart thing Osiander did. Barrett was until June, played 3 games got a minor knock and they shut him down, he was 100% healthy by July, but why risk him long term when your already out? Cerritos was also cleared by August, but super too late. We got Rent A Players Ryan Edwards and Giovanni Savarese instead.
They could be concerned about injury risk with Ricketts. I don’t know what it was - hammie? Anyway I think it’s probably more that he’s not sharp and already a bit of a project and they don’t want to blow his confidence. I do think we’ll see him before the end of the year but probably not a start.
Id rather save Ricketts. I think hes got good potential. Walls, Medina, Mendoza, Ochoa, Cowell 2.0... mehhhhhhhhhh Maybe Medina is ok. But his Q2 stuff is so inconsistent. I really dont like Walls. I thinks a lost cause.
We’ve barely seen Cowell 2.0 but clearly he’s not on the same trajectory as his brother. I’ve seen him play a few minutes with The Town and he looks like a little kid out there. I see him listed as 5’6” but his shorts go almost below his knees. He looks a little out of place even in Next / Pro but he’s still young so we’ll see more next year probably.
Cade is also out for a month or two injured for (Chivas) go figure. In 6 games he has 3 goals and 2 assists.
