Sadly, when the team keeps going deeper into the muck, so does the level of discourse on this board. In just a few weeks we've digressed from middle school taunts to grade school behavior.
I can’t give him much grief. The guy is jumping into the pilots seat after multiple engine failures with a big mountain fast approaching, and the prior crew is nowhere to be found.
With his highly touted coaching skills I was hoping for a less catastrophic crash landing…I’d differ slightly with the AWOL crew…seems like they’re all still aboard, minus Luchi. I’m not sure that surpassing a single team (in the points standings) was an unrealistic goal given that he has 15 games to work with - but he didn’t get that hoped for new coach bump for whatever reason. But at this point, regardless of how this season wraps up, I’d rather see him have the benefit of a full offseason to rebuild and give him a fresh start next year with an improved group of players. Seems only fair.
Even newly promoted assistant coaches sometimes get a bump, players might elevate their game, they want to impress the new coach, maybe they respond to a change in tactics, formation, starting positions, etc.
Maybe we could ask him to learn flamenco dancing or to learn to play killer fiddle in a bluegrass band?
Excellent! I'm glad to see you write this. I think that a big part of the lack of new coach bump is the fact that the team was already shell shocked. That and we have a ton of injuries. We are winning only very slightly more than under Luchi, but we are definitely playing better. We're giving up fewer goals. We look better organized. There are fewer blown assignments. But we still have several weaknesses. It's going to take at least a full off-season rebuild to get us moving in the right direction. GO Quakesfans!!
