Hey, great result for Arsenal against mighty West Brom today, as well. I hope you guys can beat them out for that last Champion's League spot.

I'm holding Roberto Carlos responsible for Eto'o's goal. He just stopped.

Keeper has to call it, unfortunately Casillas gets the blame. You saw how he reacted to a similar situation in the 2nd half? Just like his old competant self.

Sorry, echineko. I have had 4 drinks & want to have a fight with the world. Chalk it up to real madrid not playing up to their potential.

yeah well, like i said, that wasnt easy to watch. somehow i think if roberto hadnt pulled a pavon for that first goal, it might not have been so one sided. but no changing the result now. sigh...

I hate to say it, but they pushed RM all the way back to our box too many times. And I would love to blame Pavon, but he just wasn't our problem for once. But you were right, we seemed to be holding on somehow until that first goal.

Roberto Carlos, Zidane, Beckham, Raúl & Ronaldo where not in the game at all today. But to be fair to Barcelona they played well, never gave Madrid time & space, they were right up for the game today

Fair enough, i was let down by Madrid today, and they did get soundly beaten. Never let it be said that i am ungracious in defeat.

On to the game - a thoroughly disappointing performance from practically everybody. I agree with Lockjaw on Salgado and Guti to some extent, but Salgado was shown to be no match for Ronaldinho, and Guti wasn't really that memorable apart from working his arse off to get back to defend.

Roberto Carlos was absolutely terrible... he should have gone off..and should now lose his place to Raul Bravo IMO. He did nothing. With his pace... he should have been marking his man much tighter... instead of just stepping away and waiting... and not getting stuck in.

Zidane and Figo were back to dwelling on the ball too long agian today... and really with them out of sorts...the whole midfield was non-existent. Guti was overpowered, and Beckham just looked out of place throughout the game. Raul and Ronaldo... how often did they touch the ball throughout the game? Raul was playing way too cautious. I would think that as captain if his creative midfielders weren't doing their jobs he should try to inspire them by attempting some daring passes of his own. He certainly is capable. He was content to lay the ball off the Guti or Zidane and make a typical run which no one ever spotted.

Samuel and Pavon are never going to be a successful defensive pairing. NEVER. I've said this before - they are way too similar in style. They have no ball skills, and their method of defending is to charge at forwards and force them off the ball. One of these types of defenders... and one calm ball playing defender (like Nesta, Ferdinand, even bloody PUYOL)... is an ideal defensive pairing. Neither of them played well today, but in Samuel's case, it's not like he had much support from Roberto Carlos.

I appreciated Owen's efforts, and can only wish that he had put away the header (which Morientes would've killed for) to mount a comeback. He showed good effort today even without help from anyone else. Can't really say the same about Ronaldo.

I hate to say it, but Madrid looked almost fearful of Barcelona today. Nobody was moving, everyone was picked up by a Barca player, and even Zidane after jinking past a few players couldn't find anyone to pass to.

Mariano Garcia Remon also put in a poor showing. Why Celades for Zidane? Why only introduce Solari so late? Why not replace Roberto Carlos? He's got to shoulder a lot of the blame for the team's poor cohesion and lack of fighting spirit today.

Very gutted...but all is not lost. You idiot Barca fans who want to come here and gloat.. enjoy it while it lasts. To quote the Cunninlynguists - seasons change, mad things rearrange. In a few months your players might lose form and ours might hit it off... and you could be the ones crying as we mount a late charge for the league and CL trophies. Don't get too cocky yet.

He's one of the most pathetic posters on these boards... obsessed with gaining rep. You know how to spot the losers...they're the ones with the long line of green cards... and you know they've been repping each other for no reason other than to make themselves feel good here. Neo da one's a late bloomer, clearly.

Good post, Illuminatus. Of course you are right about GR & Raul. While Guti & Salgado did not play flawlessly, they continued to have a positive impact. If Salgado can stop Ronahldino 17 out of 20 times, you can't ask for much more. And while Guti had some bad passes & fouls, he kept winning the ball. In the 2nd half he was carring the ball more & more - he had more success than the others. To a lesser extent that is true of Zidane as well - but we needed a goal from Zidane tonight. I can't quite agree that Ronaldo & R Carlos were terrible. Roberto Carlos made that great save of the ball on the goal line. He also went forward in the first half to breathe life in to our offence. And I thought Ronaldo was fighting for the balls - he just wasn't reacting well to the 2 or 3 Barcelona defenders that would come at him. As you say, its not over, but RM sure played like a 2nd place team last night.

rc said that casillas called for the ball. well i dont know what others think but imo rc should know that it was still far from the box, thus he should at least make sure that no enemy is near
