I never judged him nor do I have an opinion. He may turn out to be a very good player but he still may be playing for Reno. The article even specifically stated that’s where he will probably play so I don’t see why that is such an issue or why we can’t post or believe that. I hope he ends up playing great ball for the Quakes.
Dude, I wish we had Baca back. Single dumbest move of the Doyle era. People didnt appreciate how much easier he made the game for everone else on the field.
Zura was just a waste of money, he didnt make us better or worse. Swing and a miss. Losing Baca made us much worse. Morrow is right up there, with Beita being up there too. Those were swings and not just misses but also taking a bat to your balls.
The Zura experiment only lasted three weeks and that was it. The dumbest and most expensive signing ever was Innocent. I still don’t see how he merited the money Doyle gave him. Not even before they signed him. I mean yeah he played in Serie A & B but injury notwithstanding, he still never deserved a guaranteed $2 million dollar contract.
You make a good case for Baca's release being the single most painful move of the Doyle era, but you're relying on hindsight. A lot of people on this board did not value Baca, either, so at the time jettisoning him was debatable (and was debated). By contrast, purchasing a used car without taking a test drive is per se stupid.
By your logic, the Innocent signing would be more stupid even than signing me, provided I only lasted two weeks and collected a single paycheck under the league minimum salary. Trust me, I would have difficulty playing for even the Long John Silver impersonators in a rec league, if I had to go the full 90.
Mercury News: Eric Calvillo comes to Earthquakes after impressing the world Calvillo played mostly on the right side of the field with the Cosmos. On the smaller side listed at 5-foot-7, 140 pounds, Calvillo feels speed will be his biggest attribute to the club. “I like to play as quick as possible. One touch, two touch,” Calvillo said. “Try to keep possession as much as possible. Control the midfield with my passing and changing the point of attack. Hitting long balls forward. I’m a playmaker.”
I think it was one person saying it over and over...very similar to when I wanted Ryan Johnson out our team so badly I couldn’t see straight. I’m sure I said it 50 times.
Maybe Calvillo eventually gives us a similar skill set to Baca. Hearing him say he likes to play the ball quickly...1-2 touch is music to my ears.
Congratulations to @ericcalvillo26 for making his @MLS debut last night! #WeAreSanJose pic.twitter.com/WbzF7gsyQ7— San Jose Earthquakes (@SJEarthquakes) October 7, 2018
Poised, wanted the ball all the time and never looked like he was guessing what to do next. Granted it was a short time but he looked he could put Jackson, Anibal, and specially, Magnus on the bench and improve the team. The kind of player 'Quakes organizations have be squashing since '08.

We talk about life in the bubble at Walt Disney World. Our first interview with him and one of our earlier interviews. Great guy, he ends up coming back on as well.
Our interview Eric after the playoff loss at SKC We learn about the penalty kick order and why Wondo wasn't first. Eric Calvillo is back on Tectonic Takes to talk about everything from the San Jose Earthquakes penalty kick order to the lows of the season. Favi and Eric break down the other goals that Eric wants to achieve in this next upcoming 2021 MLS season.
I think he is in Mexico now and will be named to the El Salvador Olympic qualifying team. I suspect he'll get more minutes there than any Quake player.
