    Re: From a neutral observer

Why is it that I didn't even have to look at the name of the poster and I knew who had written this?

Not sure if DeRo is player of the year material yet, but definately comeback player of the year. I know that last year Dom thought he was a "hot and cold" player" and he spent a lot of time on the bench. from that to taking on the playmaker role and really making a difference is one giant step, and i'm glad to see him playing every week. he really has had a phenomenal run and he had some big shoes to fill (even if they were whiney Momma's boy shoes).

Even I said that I'd like to see him play that position a few times, but no one had any valid reason to think he would be a good attacking midfielder before this season. He only played there twice for maybe half an hour all combined. Once he looked good in a non-MLS game against Pachuca only because the other team was in a total shell because they were two goals up. Once he looked bad in a disasterous game against Chicago where the squad was so depleted I thought the kit man would suit up.

I don't know if he went on the clipboard as A-mid, but for a stretch it was common to see Ekelund or Donovan slide ahead of DeRo for a half hour at a time.

By common I mean like Davis switching with Chung or Mullen or (earlier in the season) DeRo. I'm excited to see the Quakes mix things up and smoothly transition again.

He clearly lined up as A-mid in a few exhibition/Cup games, Pachuca might have been one of them.

    Vote for DeRo!!

He's getting spanked by Valderrama, which is ok, but he's also getting beat by Cleetus.. which is definitely not cool!

The funniest was when they were playing in Chile a couple years ago, and the Chilean fans were cracking up because "cobi" is Chilean slang for Brillo.

They've definitely have opened up some road on DeRo in the last week.

Gotta stay in the highlights, Dwayne. Solid records and great performances don't put you in the All-Star game.

    Cool.......

How did it feel to wear the captain's armband for Canada against the U.S.?

DDR: "It was a big responsibility for me and I welcome that. I am one of the more experienced players on the team now so I have to set a good example for the younger players and try and teach them as much as I can. As an experienced player, I have to make sure that I am teaching the younger players about how to be a professional, especially a professional representing your country. It was definitely an honor to be the captain of my national team."

Do they have to name somebody MOTM, even when they get thumped?

Quakes should have posted a Gomez Q&A or something.

    Re: Quakes versus Rapids

Noah - is your point that based on these clips recounting nice plays DeRo made last night that he should have been MOTM? If so, I guess I would just say that without seeing the game it's impossible to make an argument one way or another. Chung's name was called a lot by Shrader on the radio, it sounded like he had a good game as well. It sounded like Dwayne played well, but to be honest, there were long stretches where his name was not called out last night (again, hard to tell if that really meant anything other than Shrader was tired of calling out all of the action.....)

Chung had two great shots that were stopped by Cannon, and then scored what proved to be the game winner. Maybe that's all he did, but even if that's true, he made a pretty good contribution to the game.

If your point is something else, maybe you could clarify what it is?

Guys that score the game winner almost always get the player-of-the-game nod. Sutton got it for the Columbus game, and all he did was tap in after a great individual effort by Storey.

Yeah - when I watched that, I felt bad for Storey and Cameron. The two of them made the play, and then got basically no credit for it. I think I could have scored that goal (well, ok, maybe not me, but a lot of people......)

Yeah, I don't think there's much thought that goes into this. I think they also try to spread it around. So if you got it last week, they'd try to pick someone else the next week. But in this case, as lgf said, it's hard to know if it's really justified or not, not having seen the game.

BTW, I think DeRo is now tied for 2nd in the league in assists, with 7.
