Quakes become the only MLS team to have employed players related to both Nancy Pelosi and Mitt Romney
I think Romney is a leftie, which makes him pretty like for like for Tanner Beason. Here's how they match up. They look similar defensively, Romney with better passing stuff and worse attacking stuff (Tanner Beason - attacking?). I don't much too much stock in the attacking stuff because it's likely neither is very much involved and it's not that important. In the last say 3 years, Romney has more goals and assists.
Looking at this incoming vs outgoing comps you'd almost think the Quakes actually have an analytics department
I wonder if that comes with any perks. I have a friend related to a New York Yankee legend. About 15 years ago she and a friend travelled to New York City and when they went to check into their hotel they found their reservations had apparently been lost, and after some back and forth haggling were told there was no room available for them. She had made the reservations with her married name, and frustrated about their predicament, she blurted out, "would it help if you knew I was a DiMaggio?" The clerk then asks if she was related to Joe, and she said, "yes, he's a cousin". At that point it was like she was Judy at the gates of Oz, with the doorman learning she was wearing the ruby slippers. "You're related to Joe DiMaggio!! Why didn't you say so earlier?" They ended up comping her a suite! She said that was the only time she had ever name-dropped, and it was about 10 years after "Joltin' Joe" had died. To be honest, she is more like a first cousin 1x or 2x removed, but, she did grow up in the same San Francisco North Beach neighborhood as Joe.
I’m always name-dropping that I’m related to Charlemagne but it never gets me anywhere. https://www.theguardian.com/science...-genetic-ancestry-charlemagne-adam-rutherford
Perhaps if an attacker is bearing down on Romney, he could quickly blurt out, "Do you know who I am!!?"
“NEWS: Earthquakes Acquire Dave Romney, Mark-Anthony Kaye and Ian Harkes in Trade with New England Revolution” (SJEarthquakes.com - Monday, 12/9/24) GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Seems like a good guy. The move to the Bay Area apparently works out well for him because he and his wife have twin very young little girls and maybe another on the way or planned, and she has to travel to the west coast every so often. So she needs to take the kids along while he's on the road, etc. Pretty tough trip. Also he says - a lot of friends from his USF days, + he's from Irvine, an hour flight away if he wants to visit family. Also talked about Bruce as a "players' coach" - knows when to give guys days off, keeps them fresh mentally, etc. As for Quakes players, he talked a bit about Espinoza - how much he runs, etc., and Salinas also. And a bit of Wondo and how you had to try to prevent him from finding space.
He seems happy to be in or coming to San José. That's a good sign. He thinks that he personally can contribute to turning our club around. That's good too. I liked what he had to say about il Bruce. Hopefully, that turns out to be true. Good interview! Thanks @SoccerMan94043!! Go Quakesfans!!
