"NEWS: Earthquakes Acquire Danny Hoesen and Florian Jungwirth" (SJEarthquakes.com - Thursday, 2/2/17) GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Some nice (and quite frankly Wondo-esque) finishes in this video from his Groningen time. I'm pretty excited about this signing.
Shoot cross posted, yours beat mine by a minute, hope mods can merge threads or kill mine. But I was saying, his finishing reminds me of "Good Wondo" in this video:
Make that unofficial Danny Hoesen thread... Goodsport beat me to it, so mods should merge or kill this thread.
Reminds me: when are we going to have a Dutch Heritage Night? Orange scarves. Pickled herring sandwiches and Indonesian fare in the concession stands. Maybe some total soccer on the pitch?
Two things I like in the video the EQ have posted: Scoring a goal against Barcelona with both Puyol and Pique on defense. Scoring a couple goals by calmly chipping over the GK--I don't understand why attackers don't do that more often.
Yeah, of the 3 players (including Hyka) Hoesen's video highlights look the most impressive. However, there doesn't seem to be current video highlights of Jungwirst or Hyka (except for a few isolated things). BTW I read somewhere that Hoesen is a guy who has had trouble staying healthy. I think it was a Matthew Doyle mlssoccer article but not sure. Edit: Found the quote: "Fioranelli did say that there will be a few young, attacking additions in the coming week. Former Dutch youth international center forward Danny Hoesen could be one, and if he stays healthy the 26-year-old would be a snug fit. That's always been a huge "if" with him, however." http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2016/...us-all-22-mls-teams-ahead-2017#real-salt-lake
2 words: Sutter Health I think it was part of the sponsorship agreement to sign health challenged players. With the departures of Innocent, Goodson and Lenhart Sutter Health were probably getting nervous about our level of commitment. The signing of Pelosi and Hoesen should come as a relief to them.

Lietch on Hoesen On Danny Hoesen's scoring: "It's great. It goes to the competition within the team. He's probably been on the wrong end of the decision on my part of picking another guy over him potentially. Credit to him. He has trained and been extremely professional through all of this and has pushed himself and others. I have all the confidence in the world giving him the start tonight. Kofi Sarkodie played a great ball in from the wing for sure, but I thought his touch was first class. You like to see big players show up in big games, and tonight Danny obviously made a big impact with his goal." Seems CL may be rethinking about who he had been starting over Hoesen.
I met Danny Hoesen at the Quakes' wine and dine event last night (September 17) and asked him how he liked the Bay Area and whether he thought he would be back next year. He said he loved it here and hoped to be back but that it's not up to him.
I think he's a keeper. Versatile - can play forward or wide mid in a 4-4-2, really good feet, especially for a big guy, really good shot, wins headers pretty easily due to his size and hops, generally plays hard, in the prime of his career (26 yo) - he could be Hoesen MLS defenses for a number of years. All depends on the price I guess. He's on a one-year loan I believe, from Groningen.
Of the Euro players brought in this year, I'd put him in the 'keep him' zone. Hyka, maybe not. Vako - at the right price. FloJu and Affolter - yes. But Hoesen is definitely MLS caliber player and as mentioned he's on the more versatile side. He's got a nice hard shot and it doesn't take him 5 seconds to wind up and hit it either. I'd like to see a bit more intensity, but he seems to have improved in that respect over the season.
I remember hearing that Hoesen wanted to stay with the Quakes, hopefully all sides can reach an agreement to make that happen...
I was hoping he would be a starter early in the season. I was hoping Leitch would let him build his game and get in a rhythm...didn't happen. Going forward, I see a much more benefit to his game than Urena's.
