That doesn’t impress me much although I’m happy for former players and Quakes dignitaries (such as yourself) getting together and hopefully getting some recognition and having a good time. I’m far more interested in how my team’s playing and whatever progress we’re making. This year I expected more from our big anniversary season, and I’d hoped to see us building on last year’s little bit of progress. But damn! What a shit season it’s been! Over by game #3, all but done and dusted on picking up another wooden spoon… …not good enough for me Don, not even close.
I guess the only reason we were ahead of Seattle is that they have something to play for. Or maybe it’s about expectations. But even calling our summer window “quiet” is generous.
Except that the San Jose Earthquakes are a first division professional soccer team, they are not a restaurant!
Earthquakes Pub & Grill has a nice ring to it. The Charleston Battery used to have a cool looking place.... You can even see the Quakes NASL pennant on the wall...
Sometimes salad is the last course, if it's a truly upscale dinner I guess? For example: https://www.thekitchn.com/cultural-differences-salad-bef-65008 Let's not forget that the celebration trashed the field and it took weeks to recover.
Possibly we're seeing the last course of a "truly upscale dinner"...but I don't think so. The table looks too clean, several clean forks per setting, waters all filled to the same level...this looks like the start of the meal. In which case, it's weird to have the desert sitting there all through dinner. This is all trivial of course but maybe there's some cost savings involved in serving multiple courses simultaneously. Wouldn't surprise me knowing the guy standing there chatting with our mayor.
You missed the half-drank free beer at the left of photo. Open Longest Outdoor Bar in North America and you’re all about the water and the dessert.

Matt Doyle: Grading every MLS team's 2024 Secondary Transfer Window D San Jose Earthquakes Significant moves: n/a On the one hand, the Quakes are dead last, at a talent deficit in almost every game, and easily could have made multiple U22 Initiative signings. It is wild to see a team in that position decide “nah, we good” during an entire window. On the other hand, they’ve watched Diego Luna blossom into one of the best playmakers in the league; they’ve watched Fidel Barajas get sold for $4 million; they’ve watched Max Arfsten win a starting job for what might be the best team in North America. So maybe it’s finally dawned on them that the best thing they could do is actually trust their homegrown players and give them minutes? Niko Tsakiris, Oscar Verhoeven, Cruz Medina, maybe even Emi Ochoa and Chance Cowell… could we see all these guys get significant minutes down the stretch here? It seems like now would be the right time to give it a whirl seeing as there’s nothing left to play for over the final nine games of the season.
The secondary transfer window has come and gone and the Earthquakes—the worst team in MLS—made ZERO transfers.Either John Fisher wasn’t willing to open the purse strings for Chris Leitch, or Leitch failed to get a deal done with what he had.Either way, bad news for the GM.— Alex Morgan (@alexosmorgan) August 16, 2024
