The Quakes’ young stars, Munie, Beau, Judd, Ricketts and Bouda are all relentless, and their Euro DP, Timo, is not a prima dona. Sets the tone for everyone else.

 

Getting the roles right is part of it, and I think that relates to seeing the game well. And Bruce is a little more consistent in terms of guys playing in the same spots. For example he’ll generally play only lefties on the left side of the D and righties on the other. Dejuan is one exception but DeJuan is the rare righty that can cross pretty well with his left.

 

Bruce redeemed himself after that debacle against Colorado.

We've re-signed Bruce through the 28-29 season. If I have my schedule realignment plan right, that means he's around for the 2027 "mini season), the 27-28 season, and the 28-29 season. So basically 3 more seasons. I think he'll be 78 at the end of that contract, which means he'll be right about the right age to run for president .

Deserved I guess, yet still conflicted :\

 

I wouldn’t assume any sale is imminent (it’s been really quiet on that front recently - I wonder if Fish wants to wait post WC with the hope the value goes up) or that any prospective owner would have had to approve. But it does increase the value proposition of your team a bit - hey we have the US’s greatest ever coach locked in for a few more years.

Really? We tied the best start in MLS history and we're 3rd in the Supporter's Shield race, ahead of Miami. It's our best season since 2012, and nothing else is remotely close. And we're doing it with college players who are for the most part pretty young, so the future looks bright. We finally found a good coach who can raise the level of our "small team". Why would we want to make a change at this point?

The only negative is that I think he's gonna more or less stuff our academy. I mean we can keep producing good players but I worry about their chances on the 1st team. We should at least develop a partnership with a USL team so that those guys don't just run into a dead end.

 

It would be ironically humorous if we wind up winning MLS Cup this year, the year by which Chris Leitch said we'd win a championship or he'd be disappointed, and all happening after he had (allegedly) made an error that cost us our best player, and he got fired, after being effectively demoted. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Honestly I didn't have much hope that the Quakes would win a championship again in my lifetime - an MLS Cup anyway, but with Bruce as coach I feel like there's some hope.

 

I was not a Bruce fan when we hired him. Last year, we were bad, and I blamed Bruce. Then we lost a bunch of good players and signed only one. I was convinced that Bruce is an idiot.

But then we played great! So now I’m a believer. I have always argued that good coach can improve the team, and lo, it is so.

So, now I want to keep Bruce, and when he retires, I want to keep as much of his staff as we can.

That’s how I felt when we signed him so that was kind of the baseline for me. But he’s been able to do what none of our coaches / GM’s could do since 2012, which is to turn our “small team” into a good team. Now the question is can he sustain it for another few years.
