Yeah, does anyone except SJ mayor Matt Mahan really want to move the Quakes to downtown when we have a perfectly good stadium with good transit options and lots of parking, a couple of miles from downtown, and plenty of vectors for upgrade? Maybe some day, but I don't think it would make sense for another decade or 2 or 3.
My point initially anyway , was that the SJ mayor Matt Mahan in fact, has spoken about a new stadium and there was never any mention about improvements to the existing stadium.
Yes, and I agree that that is pretty ridiculous. But il Bruce was talking about improvements to our current stadium. I said that’s the least of our problems, and @Goodsport said he disagreed. I want to know why. I think we have much more pressing issues than improving the stadium, especially with a new owner possibly, maybe, hopefully coming in. Go Quakesfans!!
Bruce talked about potential improvements to PPP, and said it was a very good venue and could be great. As I said, seems like the only one jonesing for a downtown stadium is Matt Mahan.
Exactly! We don’t need improvements on PPP or a new stadium , what we need is above average if not better players. When that happens, the stadium situation will improve itself sooner or later.
And I think Don G made this point previously, but is Mahan really helping Fish sell the team by giving the impression to potential buyers that the current stadium is inadequate, and they really need to spend another $500M, after purchasing the team, on a new downtown stadium? I guess these prospective new owners should be smart enough to figure it out - and it might be a plus to know that there is support for a downtown stadium sometime in the future. But lots can happen between now and that day - I'm sure there will be a different mayor for one, and will the space still be there, etc.
Well, yeah, maybe. Bermuda is a warm season grass, and it was never really recommended for our area, since much of our native flora is summer dormant. But, with climate change and ever improving grass technology they have probably developed strains that do well here.
This is the beginning of Robert Jonas’ thread, which had an interesting comment from Bruce: “We have to overachieve here to be successful." https://bsky.app/profile/robertjonas.bsky.social/post/3m4e2nxewwc2t
Yeah he didn’t tell us anything we don’t already know, and he called out teams that are very successful this year having done exactly that - overachieved. I call it just being smart, and it happens every year, i.e. there are teams that “overachieve” every year. There’s no reason we can’t be like a Vancouver or a Minnesota if we’d ever get smart. Heck, I’d add San Diego to the list. Pellegrino is now like their star player. Why? He was clearly bad for us this year. Did he suddenly turn into a good player? No, they are just smarter in how they use him. Getting into central areas and have him make thru runs. At 35 he can still run past back lines with his super light build and big strides. I’ve been saying for 2 years that this is how you have to use him. Luchi tried to use him as a winger. That's not gonna work. He can be a wide forward in a system with wing backs to provide the width, but not as a winger in a 4-3-3. Bruce didn't use him a lot but a few times used him as a CAM. :facepalm
I was a little surprised that both were playing and that they are as old as they are. Whatever, both of them played well.
It's a hair piece that's somehow attached to his head - but at least he has it styled to be a little more realistic looking. I think I mentioned it before, but on his podcast he was giddily describing how he'd recently had a "bad hair day".
He tried transplants or plugs but ultimately opted for the hair piece. To his credit, he's been open and even somewhat self-deprecating about it. He appeared like this on one broadcast and said it was due to some hair transplant work. They told him it wouldn't show, it did, and he said he deserves the ridicule he got for it.
Bruce mentioned that LD will be inducted into the SJ Sports Hall of Fame. I guess that's probably why Bruce is there with Landon. I guess it already happened. No peep about it from the Quakes media team. I guess that's wise? But I'm a bit surprised. Maybe they're on vacation. The bust is not like Wondo level terrible but Donovan's not nearly that "jowly". Why can they never get these things right. Can we just have AI do it? Or maybe that was the problem...
