Well, Almeyda was right about both of them...

Almeyda liked Yueill, and said that he’d eventually be playing in Europe.

I know it seems like the last 3 coaches liked Yueill, which I never understood.

Well Caleb Porter clearly doesn't give a **** about Yueill, he started him in their US Open Cup game tonight alongside a bunch of nobodies and they lost to Chicago 3-1 at home

Update: Caden Clark from the USMNT 60 man roster didn't make the final Gold Cup roster, but Sean Zawadski did...

Looks to me that if you're looking for an offensive threat Beau's your guy but if you more want a "linksman" you might select Sean.

So the Quakes are trying to claim Beau as a Quakes academy product but Bruce says "he doesn't know the story" but Beau didn't last in the academy and wound up going to the Santa Cruz Breakers. Did he leave on his own accord, did he not make the cut at some point, or something else? We may never know... Someone could ask him? He's been on Ted Ramey's podcast and I'm sure he'll be on again. Maybe we can suggest that he ask him, not that it matters that much...

I noticed that. I've never heard anyone mention that he was ever with our academy until Bruce mentioned it. And now the Quakes marketing team dug up some photos. Looks like maybe a U12 team, so he could have left years ago, and maybe he wasn't there for very long.

DIdn't realize a Hong Kong-based sports reporter had picked up on Beau's story a few weeks ago. IMO Beau would walk into China's midfield lineup.

San Jose’s Beau Leroux eyes US World Cup spot, but has thought about playing for China

There's one of Leroux with Cade Cowell and Diego Luna

Weird. He was in with the "in crowd", playing with Cade and Luna. Wonder what happened.

About Beau not continuing with the Quakes academy, I wonder if it just has to do with him wanting to play for Santa Teresa High School? Can the academy players play for their high school teams and the academy? Doesn't seem like that would be possible, at least during HS soccer season.

I don't know about now, but at least in the early days of the academy that was a big "no" and as a result a big turnoff.

When they get to the top levels of the academy they don't even go to regular school, they do online/independent study through a school that specializes in educating child entertainers and athletes.

From the photos of Beau with the Quakes academy, it looks like he was at about the age where he was at that crossroads - do online / independent study or go to a "regular" high school. It could be that he just wanted to go to regular high school and forego the academy route. Or maybe he wasn't selected...

I have no idea what the facts are but I'd guess the most likely reason was that Leroux was deemed not good enough and cut from the Quakes academy at some point in his youth and ended up with Santa Cruz breakers. Who knows if that was the correct decision at the time, but: He did go to San Jose State, not exactly a powerhouse soccer program. In the grand scheme of things he was basically a nobody until like a few months ago. The fact that he's now our best midfielder at just 21 may lead to some hindsight bias... but we know he's a late bloomer, in three seasons at San Jose State he had a grand total of three assists, he's already got that three assists a dozen games into his first season in MLS.

This popped up under "Recent threads," and I wondered if it was a reference to me posting that Google Gemini had answered the question "Is Beau Dure married?" with "Beau Dure is married to women's soccer player Sydney Leroux."

His college career is a little deceptive. His freshman year was his freshman year. He played a lot but not a lot on the score sheet. His sophomore year he had 7g, 2a, and I think I read somewhere that he led the conference in shots, which is interesting considered he played probably as an 8 or a 10. In his last year he was injured for much of the season, so not a lot of production.

So I'm not sure it's really that he's all that much of a late bloomer. He looked good for The Town last year and had some golazos from distance. I think part of it is just Bruce seeing the game better than some of the folks in the past and being able to pick him out. No doubt in my mind that if Luchi and Leitch were still calling the shots, he'd be floundering in his 2nd year with The Town and maybe getting on the 1st team bench a few times. Meanwhile we'd be playing someone useless like Gruezo in midfield.
