There probably sure is, which seems like the best way to fix all this rep unhappiness.

And lo did they bring down the wrath of the appointed one upon them...

    :)

Worrying about rep, worrying about improving rep, worrying about rep cliques, worrying about the number of times you are able to give out rep or to whom is not worth it because no matter what gets decided, someone (and they know who they are) will complain loudly in every possible forum until BS.com changes it again to something that said person will complain about.

I do enjoy these threads though so by all means continue the hilarity of changing the rep system.

    :D

Who the hell cares if posters are getting more rep than you because they are posting hot babes ? Do you? Does that really bother you? I don't want to NOT be able to rep people because some posters are getting 100 reps a day to others posters five - I don't care. In the end, Poster 'A' has 1000 reps and poster 'B' has 500 reps and poster 'C' has 10. Now what? Absolutly nothing! No one wins anything, no one is better than the next and no one gets a cookie from Huss. We are all still the same posters having some fun on BS.

"Ohhh people are getting rep because they play the "Sasquach Game" or the Celebrity game" or the ""Number game" or the "Hot girl thread" game and are getting rep without using the system the way it was intended too, oooooh, let's stop them. Let's end this bizarro world as it truly is madness...these cheaters, how dare they!!!" This is not only cheating but down and ugly dangerous!!! "

    Are you serious??

It's not a big deal....but when I can't rep the great posts that I want to rep because people are trying to control these 'dangerous' rep cligues it kinda pisses me off. What is this? Germany 1939??

If it means I can rep the posters that I think deserve it without waiting a couple weeks or having to rep 30 other people, then so be it..."let the dangerous" threads live on - God knows I like frequenting those threads...because you know what? There is no harm and it's all in good fun.

Here's a good system for you; don't use it!

That's a pretty long post for someone who doesn't seem to care about rep.

Apparently, it was too long for you to read it or you would have understood that I care about being able to rep the posters I believe deserve it in its due time...and I think I have made that point clear from my initial post.

Otherwise, it would be unlikely that you would find me posting on this thread to begin with.

I read, it I misunderstood it. Upon rereading it I see what you meant.

I still think you're taking this too seriously.

"There is no harm and it's all in good fun."

    Right?

    You are correct, my stance on rep is;
"There is no harm and it's all in good fun."

The new system and stance taken by BS is not. We are all of the sudden hearing words like "dangerous' and "not intended for.."

I am just stating my opinion on the matter - if that is considered, "taking this to seriously" then the same goes for everyone else that has bothered to post on this thread, including you....

After all, I thiought that was the purpose of this thread, to be able to voice my thoughts on this matter.

Will I kill myself if Dortmund lose to Hamburg tomorrow? No - but I will still post on that thread. And I do take the love for my club very seriously!

I agree with this, who cares what the "rep cliques" do? I honestly didn't even know they existed until this thread. Although I have run across posters who, after checking their profiles, see they have shockingly high rep totals (not consistent with the fact that they're obviously brain-dead shmucks), so it makes sense they're jacking that up somehow. But who cares? If they're convinced their penis size is commensurate with the number of green dots by their name, no skin off my choad.

Isn't there a personal option to remove the rep system? Like you can turn it off for yourself? I'm pretty sure there used to be.

Well, it seems like everyone has an opinion, so here's mine. I don't have a particular solution in mind, just some feedback.

I use rep to give people comments attached to particular posts. The forum I regularly post in has tons of active threads and participants, so PMs aren't functional ways to refer to particular posts or comments privately. Plus, there's a lot of extra conversation that needs to happen in a polite PM exchange, and I don't always feel like going there with someone (or I know I won't be around for a few days and don't want to be rude, etc). I couldn't care less about the points, I just want to be able to chat with people in the most functional way possible.

When I get a "must spread," it takes away the functionality of the rep message. In the past, this wasn't such a big deal, because I would seek out a few people to rep so I could rep the one I wanted to (which probably works with the way rep is intended, because I would look for worthy posts to recognize and so good posts got pos rep). But now, the cycle seems tedious because it takes much too long to be able to rep again.

I understand that people are abusing the system and I suppose I see why that would need to be controlled, but to the casual user, the new system does not seem functional. If nearly every time I try to rep someone I'm told to spread, I'm going to stop trying. And that makes me sad, because I love both giving and getting the little rep messages.

I suppose I should branch away from my main forum so I wouldn't constantly be trying to rep the same people, but it takes me an hour or so to catch up on everything whenever I log on, so it's just not practical to spread out and use the system the way it's apparently intended, unless I want to quit my job or give up going out in the sunlight altogether. :)

this is a very wise and reasoned post. I think the "casual user" needs to be heard. Reduce the number to be spread. We can't have people quitting their jobs in order to crazily spread rep.;)

Click the number attached to each post in order to get a direct link to that post. Include that in a PM, and you're fine. If you can say "Nice post, especially the second paragraph" in a rep message, you can certainly say the same in a private message.

If you know they won't be around for a while, what's the difference between a PM and a rep? They'll still see the comments, no matter which way you respond. You could also do a standard reply to the message.

PM are more invasive and I have turned mine off in the past -- plus mailboxes get full.... rep is only found if you look for it.... I don't need emails and blocked pop-up boxes etc. PMs are not the way to rep.... imho.

If Jesse really wanted to ******** with people's head about rep, he'd change the default selection to neg rep. :D

I wonder how long it would take some folks to notice. ;)

Why isn't it just direct feedback to a poster? What was wrong with that?

Re: Statistic: Reps as a % of Total Posts

I don't wanna read the whole thread, but can someone give me a quick lowdown on why all my reps are blue/grayish?

I can't tell if i got negrepped or positive repped.

    Why is that?

Whats the point of rep if you can't tell if its positive or negative?
