For a while I was working on acoustic - fingerstyle to play jazz and Latin styles. No pick just fingers. But fingernails were always a problem. I could play stuff but with bad tone, which was both a left and right hand problem :). The other thing that bummed me out was the overlapping notes on strings. So many ways to play the same thing it gets confusing. So I went back to focusing on piano. I may pick it up again at some point in the future. What I like about guitar over piano is that you have full control over the attack - you're doing it directly with your fingers, you can bend notes, and also your instrument is entirely portable.

I never used anything special... just playing a lot solved it for me way back when. That and working on tough cord stretches helps both your strength and learning useful things :)

At least for me, I never needed to be double brained to play guitar. You really got separate your left and right on the piano, which I always thought was much harder.

Yeah that is a challenge with piano, but once you get used to it, it makes it more fun - you can do a lot more interesting things playing solo. I actually started on organ, and with the foot pedals it makes a triple brain split :(.

"beginner" Mel Bay orchestral chord voicing books have probably killed the motivation of more fledgling guitar players...max torture....that's what I think of when you mention chord stretch....crazy fingering...form a chord then try to throw your pinky up another whole step...haha

Earthshaker stick to power chords, you'll have a lot more fun and pick it up fast.

I never used books, never had a lesson, and even though I’m a lefty always played righty. I don’t recommend any of that, but it’s worked for me for > 50 years, so I guess whatever works…

Do one finger at a time.
I started playing guitar … well, a very longtime ago. Practice, practice, practice. Then practice some more. I play while watching soccer games and the news. That way I yell at the TV less.

Play a lot, and have fun, and don’t spend tons of money on it.

    Rock on Quakesfans!!

Lots of lessons, lots of books.
I learned more from playing with other musicians.

Just like soccer, play with others!

    Go Quakesfans!!

I live pretty far away, so on Valentine's Day and with no players, the jersey release event was not enticing enough. I'd love an update from anyone who attends.

Have we ever been first in ANYTHING in the Athletic?

"Top 5 Best MLS 2026 Kits
    1. San Jose Earthquakes

The Grateful Dead serves as inspiration for San Jose’s new 2026 MLS kit.
It’s a tie-dye look and feel that pays homage to Northern California’s beloved Grateful Dead. I’ve never been a Deadhead. Jam bands aren’t my thing, but the Quakes took a simple idea and made it easy to like."

Just goes to show that these things are very subjective. I like it fine - not crazy about, don't dislike it. I may get one. I also like the punk rock one OK too, but the tie dye one is a little more my style, as sort of an old hippie-adjacent person :).

Season ticket holder discount would apply at least. Was the personalization also done for free?

Customization was $45 prior to 20 percent discount. Altogether, it was $196, so the 20 percent kit discount effectively paid for the customization.

At least Leroux hasn’t changed his number yet. My Ousseni Bouda jersey is now a collector’s item with #25. IMG_1593.jpeg
