We declined Kaye's option. He has not signed with another team, so I assume he's back with us hoping to re-sign (presumably at a significantly lesser amount). The problem is that Jonathan Gonzalez is also trialing - he's younger and possibly better at this stage in their careers. JoGo had a great start to his Liga MX career but fell out of favor and has bounced around to a lot of teams on loan, and then not re-signed by Juarez - his last Liga MX team. Maybe he was over-hyped, maybe injuries are a factor, I don't know. He has looked pretty good in the preseason games so far.

I’ve liked what I’ve seen from JoGo so far.

But we need more players! We have four or five open roster spots?! WTF?!

Portland is only game that I have watched in the preseason. Viera, PM, and forward who scored second goal are only one's who impressed. Concerned with defense as Daniel looked poor and defense as a whole looked the same as last year.

The forward who scored was Nonso Adimabua. He’s on The Town/Quakes II.

I agree that those guys decent. I thought Jonathon Gonzales did well for himself too.

    Earl Jr was downright bad.

But Portlandia’s second half guys were worse.

Great! Home opener T minus eight days, and we have only one new player from outside the club! And I’m counting Jonathon, because Timo isn’t with us yet!

Even if dudes like Nonso and Nick F make the team, they are our academy guys. We’re going into the season playing mostly last year’s second string! Bouda, Benji, Niko, Roberts, Judd, and Floriani were not regular starters last year!

    So I’m nervous as hell!

    Go Quakes!!
    Go Quakesfans!!

Apparently you didn't get the memo. Subtraction is the new addition. :).

I guess that's true. You subtract MAK and then add him back again. Subtraction is the new addition = zero-sum game for team improvement.

Not sure if he’s on the team yet though. Didn’t play in the last game.

I don't think he is; still a "trialist" I think. But it illustrates the point.

    Yeah, right.

We have seven (7) open roster spots right now, six if we assume that Timo is really going to show up. Not that I think he won't, but he's not here until he's here.

That just makes the roster thin. There are lots of places where we need help, places where we need upgrades. JoGo is not exactly a huge upgrade.

We lack depth as several positions.
Both our first and second string GK's have issues. Daniel is injury prone, and Junior sucks.

IF we're going to play a 4-5-1, then we need fewer outright strikers, so Timo, Judd, and Nonso might do the trick, as long as we only play one at a time.

The left outside mid spot is still problematic, unless, and maybe even if, Timo plays there.

Sorry, subtraction means less. Subtracting six or seven players from your squad means that you need to sign at least five or six guys to replace them.

Niko needs to settle in...really active but erratic on the ball...nice to see more jon gon...need to see a lot more from Ricketts and Bouda. Benji looks like he's trying to play himself out of starting RB

    I'm late to the party.

Any clue as to our lineup?

And why did NyCF#ck's goal get called back?

Looks like Niko and Judd playing striker? Or maybe Niko as #10?

No pressure on the GK?! I thought that was supposed to be part of our scheme this year?

The announcers are pretty bad...every quake on the field was motioning handball on the nullified goal...he's looking right at them and says maybe offsides...wtf.

disjointed performance and multiple poor efforts in defense. That is not going to cut it...those mistakes will be punished during the season....and as of yet we don't have enough cohesiveness or savvy in the attack without timo on the field. I liked the look and energy against Charlotte, but portland and this game so far have been sleepy, loose and dull...we better at a minimum bring the energy for the opener.
