Am I angry. Yes. Am I heavily buzzing already for brunch? also yes. And we are gonna suck and also not get first overall pick. I’m also done trying to make midfielders and forwards from the draft work. Get the best center back or goalkeeper at two and be done with it because other positions never pan out
Our non-attacking picks have generally panned out - Marie, Munie, Beason, Ricketts (maybe - if he'd ever get back from injury - he looks promising). I mean none of these guys are going to be all-stars but they are at least contributing to the team. And for the superdraft these days, that's about the best you can hope for. You're not generally going to get a star player. If we were going to draft for need, I'd be looking seriously at d-mid this year. If we could even get a serviceable backup that would be a win in my book.
Does the expansion team still pick before the MLS Wooden Spoon “winner” or has that been changed in recent years? GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G

Pretty much the only college player I've seen mentioned in relation to the upcoming superdraft... Emil Jaaskelainen - famous pro dad - scores goals: 14 goals and 6 assists in 13 games - tall (6'3") target forward (Ebo replacement, we don't have many strikers in the academy pipeline) - Akron has produced plenty of MLSers draft him! One of last year’s “Superdraft Gems”, Emil Jaaskelainen, transferred to Akron instead of going pro and has 14 goals and 6 assists in 13 games this year. Have to figure someone is going to grab him this offseason. https://t.co/vktVT0ckwz— Paul Harvey (@Thundering165) October 13, 2024 https://nc-analytics.medium.com/2024-mls-superdraft-gems-2e59d5308095 That sad, the son of former Premier League goalkeeper Jääskeläinen has something that I’m looking for — sheer physical domination as a target forward. Of the 20 forwards sampled, he almost doubled the best of the field in aerials attempted and won, and comfortably led in aerial win percentage. He managed to lead the sample in shots per game and put up a whopping 0.61 xG per game, and if I had to guess a huge percentage of that was off his head.
Paul Harvey, eh. "And that's the rest of the story". We would just have to hope that San Diego doesn't take him.
Kimani Stewart-Baynes also looks interesting. Elite speed, only 18, so further room for development, and very active dribbler. Looks like he's right-footed so he could play left-side attacker for us as inverted winger. Play him and Ricketts on the left side and terrorize .
Only one player can be taken before the Quakes selection, I don't think anyone is saying he'll be the #1 pick That article is from last year... "2024 SuperDraft" Kimani Stewart-Baynes (born January 17, 2005) is a professional soccer player who plays for Major League Soccer club Colorado Rapids. In December 2023 ahead of the 2024 MLS SuperDraft, Stewart-Baynes signed a Generation Adidas contract with Major League Soccer.[11][12] At the draft, he was selected in the first round (fourth overall) by the Colorado Rapids.
Perfect, now we can see how that would have worked out! Apparently, not great... but he's still only 19... At least he made the team. As for the tall forward guy, I don't know, I'm getting Adam Jahn vibes... Except Adam didn't look quite this geeky.
The season's not over and yet our #1 news story is about an event more than two months away. I guess we can dream.
Emil Jaaskelainen's dad Jussi had 56 caps for Finland and had almost 600 appearances between Bolton, West Ham, and Wigan. Adam Jahn is some rich kid from the golf club enclave of El Macero. Jahn had 24 goals in 73 games at Stanford. Emil has 14 goals 6 assists in 13 games at Akron. But yes they are both 6'3" target forwards.
It was a joke. I know they are different players. He does look geeky, I will say that. But geeks can score goals too.
Legit question. Are there any “good” players available in the draft that aren’t already claimed by homegrown status? I thought the draft was as relevant as Chivas USA.
It's too soon to judge players from last year's draft but #3 pick Logan Farrington has 4 goals 8 assists for FC Dallas this season... he's played 1200 minutes for a team that has plenty of homegrowns. As for 2023: #3 pick Moise Bombito is already a regular CB for the Canadian national team and after a year and a half Colorado sold him to Nice for $7.7 million which could reach $10.7 million with add-ons. #6 pick Duncan McGuire was almost sold to Blackburn but there was a clerical error, in any case he's got 23 goals 6 assists for Orlando City over two seasons. #12 pick Patrick Agyemang has 9 goals 5 assists for Charlotte this season. #14 pick Max Arfsten played for Quakes 2 before being drafted by Columbus and has 5 goals 8 assists this season... Matt Doyle was recently wondering if he would be the best player on the Quakes. #25 pick Emeka Eneli was moved from forward to defensive midfield and has played 2600 minutes for RSL this season. Would Max Arfsten be the best player on the Quakes? Why in god's name would they let this man go?— Matthew Doyle (@MattDoyle76) June 30, 2024 I don't know if there's any MLS team that couldn't benefit from adding a player at that level, but given the 2024 Quakes are one of the worst teams in MLS history they certainly could!
Alex Harris ('05)... would a kid from Cornell accept a Generation Adidas deal from MLS to enter the draft? Harris has 11G, 3A in 916 minutes this season in his sophomore year. This was after 12G, 4A in 1143 minutes last season where plenty of people thought he was the best Freshman in the country. I've never seen Harris play, but from the highlights I've seen and how he's been described to me I gather he's a speedster forward. Capable as a winger or a #9. The Big Red secures a 4-1 victory against Colgate.Alex Harris captured a pair of goals, while Aidan Martin and Sam Latona also grabbed a tally each!#YellCornell🐻https://t.co/Oi1GIqJcs6— Cornell Big Red (@CornellSports) October 15, 2024 The people who follow college soccer closely often mention the name Alex Harris ('05) to me. He's supposed to be the next "college soccer find" that wasn't previously well known, yet college soccer was the right path for him and his trajectory takes off with it.
