You're the guy who thinks that if we're not nice to Fish, with Fisher Out signs and the like (oh that oughta do it!), he'll sell the team . As I said I think he's got thick skin. You're not going to move him one way or another whether you're nice to him or mean to him.
I feel like three years is enough time. I will bet you $100 that they will not have shovels in the ground (at the fairground site) by April 5, 2025...3 years from the date that this partnership with the county was first announced. That is the bet.
No, I'm the guy who says "Don't feed the fish" in hopes that if enough people refused to reward all this failure every year, he might have to step up his game or gtfo.
It might, I doubt that he has many more than that. And over 2.5 years we've been at this lost cause plan with the county, were you surprised?
It'll only be a "lost cause" if the negative nancy's and curmrudgeons like Joe Simitian and Quakes05 get their way.
It's a long damn time...sure hope we don't end up right back at square one, which is what I've kind of expected all along.
Not taking that bet. Training facility is going to get done at the Fairgrounds. But unlikely shovels by April — even had the supervisors given approval on Tuesday. You’re moving goalposts to timetable because you sense I’m right that Simitian’s hissy fit will ultimately not prevent the project moving forward.
I hope so, Don, I really do. We hadn't set up any goalposts. We're at the negotiating stage and an open-ended bet about a facility being built someplace, and some point in time, isn't one I'd take. And so, the 3-year anniversary of this announced plan of a Quakes/SCC collaboration to get it built at the fairgrounds seems reasonable. Unlikely? Yes. I expect it will drag on for another 6 months or so and then fall through...if the energy, enthusiasm and support was there, we'd be further along by now. Again, I hope I'm wrong...I'd love to see this facility get built anywhere, but this plan has always looked like one with an outside chance, at best.
The disagreement was where it will be built, not when. Willing to bet you on the subject of the location.

Don's bound to have replied by the time I've read this, but it was pretty clear he thought there will be a facility and it will have a ceremonial ground breaking. The location is the question - and the subject to the bet - not the time of a groundbreaking.

Yeah, he is the winningest ever MLS coach but it's kind of tough sell - "Come see a cranky old guy standing on the Quakes sidelines".

At first I thought that was a Quakes award, but turns out it's a world wide award save for England (which has their own special category). Not sure exactly what "player care" is but I'm guessing it's about the mental health side of things. Fish and co. get raked over for being cheap but the fact that they have a person responsible for "player care" at the academy level is a good thing. I assume she's done some good and possibly innovative things if her nomination got the attention of the group / committee amongst presumably many from all around the global soccer community.
