Spoiler alert: no Quakes But Beason was mentioned: Other options for this slot in a similar mold include Houston’s Ethan Bartlow, San Jose’s Tanner Beason and more, though those two are around $300k cap hits. Here's my MLS mock expansion draft for San Diego FC tomorrow night.A few things:- Cheap/domestic players usually go, not DPs. (Sorry, Toronto! Insigne won't be picked)- Don't look at players out of contract/loan expired- Assume at least 1 tradehttps://t.co/ZKDfitZEtA— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) December 10, 2024 https://www.givemesport.com/mls-expansion-mock-draft-tom-bogert-picks-for-san-diego-fc/
Beason had his option declined. I wonder if San Diego has to pick up his option salary if they select him, or can they renegotiate?
I assume they could pick up his team option, otherwise he's free to sign anywhere (not sure how his age and service time lines up with current free agency requirements)... Bogert: "Assume at least 1 trade" Given that Yueill is gone, we're expecting Gruezo to be gone, and Kaye hasn't been good since 2019, perhaps the Quakes should trade with San Diego and acquire Gaston Brugman from the Galaxy? I'd love Matias Rojas from Miami but he's most a RW and we have Espinoza... how much does LAFC's Eduard Atuesta make? He's younger than Brugman... https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/2024-mls-expansion-draft-eligible-players-how-to-watch
Oddly enough, I didn’t say anything. What I did, though, could be found in the link. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G

Quakes should trade them Bouda (also a Right to Dream alumni) for one of the five picks... Sources say 27 year old Ghanaian winger Yaw Yeboah to be selected for San Diego FC in tonight’s MLS expansion draft. Yeboah was an MLS Cup champion with Columbus in 2023 and is a graduate of the Right To Dream Academy system. pic.twitter.com/aJaHn0m75F— SanDiego.Futbol (@SanDiego_Futbol) December 11, 2024
When is it gonna start? Some dude in skinny jeans and white sneakers spewing BS. Edit: he’s the “sporting director.”
Players Out D - Carlos Akapo (11/29/24 - out of contract) M - Michael Baldisimo (11/29/24 - out of contract) D - Tanner Beason (11/29/24 - option declined) F - Jeremy Ebobisse (11/29/24 - option declined) GK - Jacob Jackson (11/29/24 - option declined) GK - JT Marcinkowski (11/29/24 - option declined) M - Alfredo Morales (11/29/24 - option declined) F - Will Richmond (11/29/24 - option declined) D - Tommy Thompson (11/29/24 - option declined) GK - William Yarbrough (11/29/24 - option declined) D - Casey Walls (11/29/24 - out of contract) M - Jackson Yueill (11/29/24 - out of contract) It's a start, too bad Gruezo wasn't on that list.
One thing Fisher can do to signal to BA (and everybody else) that he's serious about improving the team would be to buy out Gruezo if someone else doesn't sign him. I only recall that happening once before - with Dawkins, IIRC, and it would a very encouraging sign...
Yes, I think Dawkins might be the only other Quakes buyout, at least of any note. Gruezo's buyout would probably be about twice as much though - almost $2M vs. about $1M for Dawkins. It's crazy that we're in line to pay Gruezo almost $2M this year :faceplam
