Here's my MLS mock expansion draft for San Diego FC tomorrow night.

A few things:
- Cheap/domestic players usually go, not DPs. (Sorry, Toronto! Insigne won't be picked)
- Don't look at players out of contract/loan expired

Beason had his option declined. I wonder if San Diego has to pick up his option salary if they select him, or can they renegotiate?

 

I assume they could pick up his team option, otherwise he's free to sign anywhere (not sure how his age and service time lines up with current free agency requirements)...

Given that Yueill is gone, we're expecting Gruezo to be gone, and Kaye hasn't been good since 2019, perhaps the Quakes should trade with San Diego and acquire Gaston Brugman from the Galaxy?
I'd love Matias Rojas from Miami but he's most a RW and we have Espinoza... how much does LAFC's Eduard Atuesta make? He's younger than Brugman...

It's a start, too bad Gruezo wasn't on that list.

 

One thing Fisher can do to signal to BA (and everybody else) that he's serious about improving the team would be to buy out Gruezo if someone else doesn't sign him. I only recall that happening once before - with Dawkins, IIRC, and it would a very encouraging sign...

 

Yes, I think Dawkins might be the only other Quakes buyout, at least of any note. Gruezo's buyout would probably be about twice as much though - almost $2M vs. about $1M for Dawkins. It's crazy that we're in line to pay Gruezo almost $2M this year :faceplam
