So, i understand it's only been 2 games so far---but the team has looked so hapless and so clueless and impotent out there that it makes me wonder if Backe has lost the team? The team has just looked like zombies out there.....Combine the horrendous start this year with Backe's performance last year and you have to start wondering if it's time for him to go? Maybe wait 5 more games? And yes, i understand that Rafa will be back soon, but sadly I don't think he will make that much of a difference. there just seems to be a deep malaise over this team. Im not even sure the magical 3rd DP during the summer window can do everything on his own--the team dynamic is just broken. I am betting that the Red Bulls 2012 season is going to get a lot worse before it gets any better--IF if does indeed get better. I figured I would just save everyone the time and start this thread because it seems to me that we will be needing it sooner or later this season.
Legitimate question for Red Bulls supporters: What has Backe done that has give you confidence in his abilities as an MLS manager? I'm curious as to what those close to the team are able to point to on this end. From afar, most of what he does seems puzzling to me (from his all-star selections to the way his teams just seem to lack any sort of organization and plan), and although there a few highlights, such as the drafting and development of Tim Ream, I'm not sure how much credit Backe gets for any of them.
This it is a legit request, Backe has to go, isn't any other alternative, the coming of Rafa and Conde are not the solution rather it is a big problem, because Backe are counting on that to cure the team headache and not in his ability to lead the team and that's mean he hasn't a clue of what he is doing or what to do next, because everything he has doing until today has not give the results expected and if that is the only thing he can do, that isn't enough ... So, Fire Backe is the only solution....
You know, while he insist in bring us a bunch of old guts from Europe, Philadelphia Union is building a team for the future with the chance to win all in 2012, they have in they roster 16 players 22 and under, that is fantastic...kudos to the manager...
We had them. They weren't deemed sufficiently Red Bull-ian. We no longer have them. We can talk all we want about Backe and Soler. But until red Bull goes, nothing changes. (That said, we're still the fourth worst team in the East at a minimum)
Gentelmen, the team looks bad right now, but we are 2 games into the season having played on the road against 2 good teams while missing 3 key players. KC went 1-9 to start the season last year. Backe and Soler need to have at least until the end of this season. We can't keep firing coaches and GM's every 2 years. That decision always looks good in the short term when we're pissed off, but it will never work in the long run...which will make our misery even worse.
Goal of the week: The one Backe and Soler fu*ck in to RBNY Fans.... Men, all of you have to be in accord with me, the Europe experiment of Backe and Soler has been a failure, a complete shit....
I brought this up in the match thread last week but what about Porter? Bring him in after the Olympics and he would even have time to get another DP. Watching Agudelo he plays better for him then I've ever seen him play for NYRB.
I think that would be a great signing. But I think the job as US coach suits him best as he's good with developing young players. Are there any former Metros/Red Bulls that would make good managers(not petke)? It seems that the MLS is following that type of trend(Kreis, DC coach, NE coach, Marsch, etc..)
Dave van den Bergh is an assistant with the US U-20's. Donadoni just took the Parma job. They've actually played some decent football since he took over. He's been OK at other clubs he managed. I thought he was good at Livorno considering the circumstances. What about someone like Roberto Martinez? Any other manager and Wigan would have been relegated years ago. Even with a minimal budget he always seems to find players who play some good football and he obviously coaches them up.
Have to agree with you on Backless here. I think a new voice could get this team going. I think we have enough talent to be much better, but yes, what a dissapointment for the money we have spent. Where is Charles Stiliitano when we need him????LOL
They'd have a better chance of luring JPA or Richie Williams back over. RBNY - alienating ex-players since 2008. (I also don't think he's ready to be a head coach yet.). You forgot about Tabare Ramos, who is also in the US Youth set ups 1996 is a long time ago. Loved what he did at Livorno. Not a big fan at all ofwhat he did elsewhere. Yes, yes, and yes. I was very impressed with him in the studio during WC 2010 as well. Unfortunately you would need someone riding shotgun who knows MLS well. (you know, like Richie and Des). Chances of that happening are slim. and Caleb Porter isn't coming. Maybe after the Olympics. Maybe
Didn't forget Ramos but he just took the U-20's job so I figure he'd want to do that for awhile. Unless he can do both but I've never been a fan of manager with two jobs. I honestly think this is the best plan, just wait. I watched the U-23's play again last night and they play so well, obviously he's put his stamp on that side. He's a great coach and I think he can get the best out of the current roster which isn't bad imo.
Is a position coaching the Red Bulls even a step up for Porter? He just started as the U-23 coach, do you really expect him to jump ship a few months later?
You don't usually coach the U-23's more than one cycle. So unless he's going to get looks at some Euro jobs I think NYRB might be an interesting project to him, to a lot of managers in fact. Of course he has Akron but for his career he needs to make that next step into club management.
I did not know this, would be an interesting choice then, everything I've read about the U-23's so far has said that he plays a good, organized, attacking style.
