I'll admit that I didn't see the game. But isn't this pretty much the plight suffered by EVERY newly-promoted team? To overcome the subliminal bias based on an inherent assumption that they are among the weakest teams in the league.

Very interesting statistic...I would normally be tempted to say that it would speak for itself, though there are some surprises and inconsistencies in there (according to popular wisdom).

A very interesting comment from the great Zucconi re: suspected referee bias/match fixing allegations in Serie A:

Enough said...(sounds like I have a new sig)

In the air Ascoli are shocking, two goals from set-pieces in one game. Also if it hadn't been for Coppola this season Ascoli could of lost more games.

Come On ASCOLI the next month is the most important of the season, due to the tough games on our roster.

Question (I guess I'm really just looking for opinions here):

Regarding the Ascoli/Fiorentina match - Is it fair to the opposing teams fans that they can't attend the match just becuase the behavior of the other teams fans has caused the match to be played "behind closed doors"?

It is fair, because their will be a great unfair advantage. If Ascoli played at home with the crowd, it might of given them something extra. In the game agianst Fiorentina, Ascoli may have put more of a fight with their crowd, I don't think they would of won but you never know. Last time Ascoli played home to Fiorentina, Ascoli thumped them 4 nil. If Fiorentina fans were allowed to go, it would of meant that it was practically a home game for Fiorentina, and thats totally unfair. I think its enough playing away from home with no fans. Napoli had the same when they played in Campobasso behind closed doors.

    Ascoli in trouble?

Ascoli's centre of defence is very weak at the moment with Cudini out, Adani still injured, Paci dissqualified, and Domizzi not 100% fit. It was scary with Paci in defence, who Ascoli bought for the Serie B season, now Ascoli has to play Corallo. Corallo has been with Ascoli for 2 season previous to this one and has only racked up 20 games. To his credit he did play against Milan in his only game of this season, and played well next to Cudini.

The points were shared at the Stadio Del Duca, as both these sides continue to stutter.

Both teams have been struggling of late, but Ascoli hoped the return of their home fans after two games behind closed doors would give them a boost. The Bianconeri were without a win in five going into this match, while Palermo had just one victory in their last eight.

This was the first ever top flight meeting between the two teams and Palermo had the first real chance, Andrea Caracciolo unable to make the most of a loose ball after Fabio Grosso's glancing header.

Ascoli had timid penalty appeals waved away when Grosso and Maurizio Domizzi clashed, as the referee awarded a free kick in the Rosanero's favour.

A diving Gonzalez header was off target and Caracciolo horribly wasted Massimo Bonanni's cross with a wayward attempt.

The Sicilians had the better of the first half and took the lead just before the break. Stephen Makinwa held up the ball for Bonanni's powerful volley at the back post.

Marco Ferrante drew Ascoli level with his second goal of the season. Guana won back the ball in midfield and skipped past two defenders before rolling across for Ferrante to slide the ball under Matteo Guardalben.

The tension was rising and a scuffle broke out after Fini clattered into Eugenio Corini. Foggia's effort was just wide and Caracciolo nodded a Corini free kick over the bar.

The television replay clearly shows that Palermo's goal should have been given offside.
    Why Ascoli refs??????

    Interesting possibility.......

"Ascoli boss Marco Giampaolo has admitted that he would love to bring unsettled Lazio striker Simone Inzaghi to the Stadio Del Duca in the January transfer window..."We have to do something but I understand that this transfer is ambitious. We don't have much money so we'll have to wait for the right opportunity"

He would be a welcomed addition to the squad, as Ascoli lacks depth and quality up forward. The forwards Ascoli have are all similar, how good would it of been to see Bucchi back for Ascoli, now he looks like moving to Benfica from Modena. Ascoli just needs someone to put the ball in the back of the net. Quagliarella and Bjelanovic are good players, Bjelanovic is good in the air and Quagliarella has good good pace and skill, however they don't seem to have the important finish. Maybe they've been unlucky this season, becasue the goal that Quagliarella scored against Treviso was a beauty and it was long time coming.

I was in the Stadio Del Duca :) for the game between Ascoli and Treviso, with another 9 thousand ascolani. Great atmosphere, and it was great to see the boys get up. The passion among the people is incredible, these people become different people at the stadium. This club truly represents the people, if it wasn't for Ascoli Calcio no-body would know of the place. Watching an Italian game live is incredible, something all should do. However the game was tense because after Ascoli had scored, Ascoli sat back a bit. Great fun and it was cheap because it was Treviso, Value for Money, joining in with the crowd is also great, especially near the end when you know the team is going to win.

Ascoli are doing well at home, however this round the other results didn't go uor way. The game against Juve will be nearly impossible, hopefully Ascoli don't get affected to badly.

Foggia, I believe will be the next star for Italy. He's fast, skillfull, got a wild shot and young.

If Inter get Maxwell, he might be going to Ascoli on loan. This is due to the fact that he doesn't have a EU passport.:)

Ascoli lost 3-1 today. The marking on all three Juve goals was poor. I can see what you mean about Foggia aussie, he is a promising talent.

Very dissappointed in the defending, Paci and Domizzi made a fool of themselves, they didn't mark and made for clearences. At least one good thing happened to Ascoli, Foggia completly beating Zambrotta, which brings me to my next point Zambrotta should play in the midfield rather than defence. He plays better moving foward, and if the opposition goes on the counter on the right side Zambrotta is always doing the chasing, and losing out. If he has fast right wingers on him with skill, he loses out. This has been shown in a few games Italy-Scotland, Milan-Juve (when he played right back), Juve-Ascoli, and Ascoli-Juve. He's got way more potential moving forward than defending.

He was a little, 50 50 at the first half of the season, however this last month he's been incredible, he's showing the public the Ferrante of old. He's doing very well considering we bought him for the Serie B season.

Yeah that goal, was the goal of the night, the ball was won in midfield by foggia, he played commoto in and he crossed it to Ferrante. World class goal.
