Re: The Off-Season Near News and Rumors Thread I'm curious at to who Knave. Looking at their roster, the only players that raise an eyebrow are Brown and Griffin and even those two are iffy.
Re: The Off-Season Near News and Rumors Thread I think Bryan76 covered the main one. But I'd take a look at Griffin, and if you want to talk about defensive midfielders (I know, like we need any more) I'd add in Pause and Buete (Chicago fans are down on Buete, but I think he'll be a very solid player in the future). Part of me would also like to get Mapp back (moving into the offensive end of midfield) but I don't think we really need him. I just like him as a player.
Re: The Off-Season Near News and Rumors Thread Lots of good thoughts but it always comes back to giving something to get something.
Re: The Off-Season Near News and Rumors Thread Don't forget that Curtin has played for United before, in the Unity Games. So there is an established relationship. His brother also plays at Georgetown, so that would help. Needless to say, we could use him with the impending loss of Nelsen. Whatever can be done to keep Stokes lower on the depth chart is a good move for the time being. Who knows, maybe they are trying to trade back the Cartographer? Has he lost his way with the Fire? (I'm sorry, that was horrible)
Re: The Off-Season Near News and Rumors Thread I don't think they'd trade Curtin (at least without someone lined up to take his place), and I don't think he'd be good for us. While he's a good defender, he's not the organizer we need now that Nelsen's gone. He's Petke to Charlie Blackmouth's Nelsen.
Re: The Off-Season Near News and Rumors Thread Well, they're set to sign Caballero so that means at least one starter will go to the bench.
Re: The Off-Season Near News and Rumors Thread I think DC would have an interest in Kelly Gray (physically and on the ball, he's similar to Nelsen), Leonard Griffin, Scott Buete, Logan Pause, and Justin Mapp. I'd love to see what Nowak could do with those guys. Scott Buete can play on the outside in a 3-5-2, as well as at dmid. I ain't holding my breath for a trade.
Re: The Off-Season Near News and Rumors Thread Well, I would certainly be happy to see the legbreaker go. However, I would certainly want someone decent for him, and if we could not get that, I'd say we should not trade him. Who does Fire have that is worth a spit? Jim Cutain...maybe, Kelly Gray...maybe.
Landon Leaves San Jose, Heads To Bayer Leverkusen Landon's gone to Bayer Leverkusen and San Jose will get an allocation. Dominic Kinnear mentioned Mathis in the conference call when asked about possible replacement players. I don't think he was serious though. http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20041123&content_id=19573&vkey=news_mls&fext=.jsp It's about frickin' time the boy left. Gotta break up that creepy relationship he has with his sister sometime.
Re: The Off-Season Near News and Rumors Thread I wonder whether Curtin could be effective in a three-back set up. He's not as agile and athletic as Nelsen.
Re: The Off-Season Near News and Rumors Thread San Jose will not be picking up the option for Ronnie Ekelund next season. He'd be a great guy to have to add depth to the midfield. I dunno about the cost though.
Re: The Off-Season Near News and Rumors Thread He's on his last legs...he's had quite a few injury problems the past few seasons and I don't see him working well in the up tempo pressure game that Nowak likes to play.
Re: The Off-Season Near News and Rumors Thread What I heard was that Kasey Keller literally wants to go back home; that is, to the Pacific Northwest. Of course, that scenario depends on Seattle getting an expansion franchise which Keller could join as a player/coach.
