You've missed Medkila, haven't you? ;) They finished fourth in that division, by the way. Six points behind Fløya. I really hope Fløya win against Lyn. We need fewer Oslo based teams in Toppserien and the league isn't complete without at least one team from the north, in my opinion.

With Kennya Cordner and Synne Jensen tied with 16 goals each, it's good fortune the season ends with Sandviken visiting the Røabanen.

poor Synne Jensen - she must have the plague or something - in terms of the WNT o_O:cautious: - suffering from Cecilie Pedersen syndrome - an outcast - soooo frustrating. Ada is a self-imposed outcast

Yes, it's getting weird. Isabell Herlovsen withdrew from the squad with injury a couple of days ago and Sjögren replaced her with Therese Åsland.

I completely forgot about last week's Goal of the Week competition. The winner was Giovanna de Oliveira of Avaldsnes, who spoiled the CL qualifying party for Vålerenga with this injury-time goal.

    Euro qualifier, Stavanger

    Norway 6 - 0 Northern Ireland
    1-0 Utland 3
    2-0 Utland 12
    3-0 Reiten 51
    4-0 Engen 53
    5-0 C.Hansen 70
    6-0 C.Hansen 90+2

    ---------------------------------- Lisa Marie Utland

---- Guro Reiten ------------ Caroline Hansen---------------- Karina Sævik

------------------------- Frida Maanum --- Vilde Bøe Risa

Ingrid Moe Wold -- Ingrid Engen -- Maren Mjelde -- Synne S. Hansen

    -------------------------------- Cecilie Fiskerstrand

    Substitutions
67 min - Elise Thorsnes for Lisa Marie Utland
67 min - Amalie Eikeland for Karina Sævik
77 min - Rikke Nygard for Vilde Bøe Risa

Comfortable win in near freezing temperature in front of 6709 spectators in Stavanger. Ingrid Engen dropped back as central defender in this game and replaced the injured Maria Thorisdottir, but was rarely called into action. Apart from a string of corners in the opening minutes, Northern Ireland barely managed to put together any attacks worth mentioning. Norway controlled the game, and with the same efficiency as in the earlier matches, they might have scored ten goals tonight. There were some incredible misses, but we can't complain when we score six. Another quality performance from Caro Hansen. 19 year-old substitute Rikke Nygard won her first cap.

    Highlights to follow.

Caro Hansen was a guest on the big NRK talkshow Lindmo yesterday and did very well. You can see it here. Norwegian language skills an advantage though. :alien:

NRK also made an article about her covering some of the same topics as in the talkshow. About growing up playing for boys teams, her shyness and vulnerable personality, her unlikely emergence as a team leader, and how her previous injury problems have shaped her as a player. I've run it through Google translate and it comes out well.

    News in brief:

    - Klepp coach Olli Harder is leaving the club after three years. The New Zealander has been vital to Klepp's rise as a club in recent years. He turned down an offer from Liverpool last year, but now makes himself available for new jobs elsewhere in Norway or abroad.

    - Kolbotn coach Knut Slatleim is leaving the club. They looked like real challengers in the beginning of the season, but when Sævik and Mikalsen went abroad and Herlovsen had recurring injury problems, Kolbotn lost ground with the front runners and instead settled for mid-table at best. There has also been a problem with the club's stadium and water-logged pitch, which has resulted in four home matches played elsewhere. Slatleim hopes to sign for another Toppserien club.

    - The annual La Manga camp (10 days long) in January for the national team will be cancelled this year. Many Norwegian players are now based abroad which complicates things during the continental season. So it will be four months until the group gathers again (for Algarve Cup).

    - The Toppserien pro/rel play-off matches have new dates:

    24 Nov: Fløya - Lyn
    01 Dec: Lyn - Fløya

The first match in Tromsø is indoor of course. Full winter up there now, but the outdoor return leg at Kringsjå in Oslo is a possible snow chaos match. The stadium is located at altitude not far from the Holmenkollen ski terrain. :coffee:

    TOPPSERIEN 2019 - Matchday 22

    Avaldsnes 0 - 1 Trondheims-Ørn
    Adserø 90(p)
    RC: Aivi Luik (Ava) 89

    Stabæk 2 - 2 LSK Kvinner
    Bjånesøy 66, 78 - Thorsnes 60, 74

    Arna Bjørnar 0 - 2 Vålerenga
    Madsen 15, Markussen 23

    Fart 1 - 6 Klepp
    Blakstad 41 - Solaun 4, 56, Terland 9, 19, Østenstad 50, Rogde 72

    Kolbotn 0 - 0 Lyn

    Røa 2 - 2 Sandviken
    Stenevik 41(og), Fjelldal 51 - Cordner 56, Brochmann 63

The league season is now completed, which is about time. Snow and frosty pitches around the country complicated the kick-offs. In the meaningless match between Kolbotn and Lyn, a snow shoveling tractor had to be brought out in the middle of the game. Champions LSK dropped points against another relegated team (Stabæk) today. Three league games in a row without a win is a rarity for them. Vålerenga's win secured them the second place and the CL-spot. This is big news for Norwegian woso. Finally a club with ambitions and resources to establish themselves in Europe. Next Saturday is the NM Cup final between LSK and Vålerenga. Looking forward to it. Trondheims-Ørn won away at Avaldsnes. T-Ørn is one step closer in negotiations of becoming Rosenborg from next season, which is good news for Norwegian woso too.

Sandviken's Kennya Cordner is this seasons's top scorer on 17 goals, the lowest total since 2003. She went head-to-head with Synne Jensen of Røa today and won the individual battle as both players had 16 goals before kick-off. Cordner of Trinidad & Tobago is the first foreign top scorer in Toppserien since Brazilian Debinha netted 20 goals for Avaldsnes in 2014.

I am also excited by the fact that a very interesting club like Vålerenga will play in the Champions' League next season and I can't help wondering if Ajara Nchout Nyoja will show some of her magic on the international club stage also. :)

Wow, I didn't even remember that Debinha was once playing in Toppserien! MVP of this year's NWSL Championship game in USA and one of the finest player around these days.

got to say, very impressed with Ingrid Engen's performance yeseterday, she was a monster-stopper at DM for Wolfsburg, making Bayern Munich's usual ace, mid duo of Magull & Dallmann rather ineffective for most of the match.
Along with Thorisdottir, gives a strong physical presence out there for Norway, which will keep their NT viable for a long time to come. Engen's 22 years old, 5ft 10. but WOW seemed to stand taller than that in this game!(thwarted over everybody else)

She's very young, but she's surely going to grow into one on the top DFs in Europe (or even in the world). She anyway paid for her lack of experience at the WWC: there was at least one game (the one vs England, if I remember well), where she was totally outclassed by opponent FWs.

she must be a perfect fit for WOB though as she's started in all 9 league games so far on a team goes so deep, they didn't even start Doorsoun(German NT's most consistent CB) yesterday
The problem now for any WOB players is finding real competition(guessing till they meet Lyon in the CL) as the team is tearing up the field in an allready weakened Bundeliga

but this difficult game made Engen look so much better, especially with sub par performances from fellow team mates like Harder, Popp & Gunnarsdottir(Pajor & Bloodsworth came through for them)

Yes, Engen almost seems taylor-made for Wolfsburg (and she is still only 21, not 22). I'm surprised at how fast she has become a major player in that team. I thought it would take her longer to adapt. Even as a newbie, she is pointing and directing much older players from a key position in midfield. I know Kellermann & Co consulted Martin Sjögren before signing her. Sjögren has some authority on judging players in woso after years in the game at club level working with world class players. He knows what to look for regarding whether a player can make it at top level or not, and obviously Wolfsburg followed Sjögren's recommendation this time with Engen.

I wrote a short break-out-star-profile about Ingrid Engen in October last year, back on page 53 in this thread, before she was Wolfsburg bound. I stand by what I wrote: "She is very easy to recognize in Toppserien with her statuesque appearance in central midfield. Her confident body language on the field indicates she is ten years older. She covers a lot of ground, is comfortable with the ball at her feet, and can outbattle most players with cunning twists and turns whilst keeping the ball under control."

I still think she has to work a little on the precision in her passing game when facing top opposition, but she has time on her side to adjust that. Her physical assets of having both high top speed, endurance (covered most km per game in the WWC) and physical strength is quite rare.

22nd Matchday - Goal of the Week candidates

1 - Kennya Cordner, Sandviken (away at Røa)
2 - Melissa Bjånesøy, Stabæk (home vs LSK Kvinner)
3 - Elise Thorsnes, LSK Kvinner (away at Stabæk)

I'm going for the Bjånesøy bullet this time as Stabæk bow out of Toppserien. You can vote here for your favourite.

NM Cup Final 2019 - Telenor Arena, Oslo

    LSK Kvinner 5 - 1 Vålerenga
    1-0 Elise Thorsnes 11
    2-0 Emilie Nautnes 20
    3-0 Emilie Nautnes 25
    4-0 Therese Åsland 45
    4-1 Ajara Nchout Njoya 51
    5-1 Anja Sønstevold 57

Vålerenga arrived at the cup final having lost only one match in all competitions since May. Most experts predicted a tight final as LSK had shown weak form recently, ending the league season without a win in the last three games. Now was the moment for LSK to be dethroned. But instead, a nightmare unfolded for VIF as defensive errors and nerves got to them. The game was virtually over by half-time. It was shocking to see a team with a bunch of experienced internationals collapse like this, but all credit to LSK for delivering when it mattered again. They sure have a mental advantage over all Norwegian teams. Vålerenga said before this season that their goal is to be Norway's best team in 2020. We'll see...

    Teams:
LSK: Fiskerstrand - Moe Wold, Gausdal, Brenn, Woldvik - Bachor, Sønstevold, Åsland - Nautnes, Thorsnes, S.Hansen

VIF: Seabert - Tomter, Waldus, Pedersen, Dalgård - Spitse, Ludvigsen, Stefanovic - Markussen, Madsen, Njoya

After praise comes a miss. That's typical. Your errors become more costly when you operate as a defensive player. I don't think Ewa Pajor slept well after that game either. She wasted three or four one-vs-one chances with the goalkeeper and had a seemingly good goal disallowed for offside. Gunnarsdottir missed an open goal from five yards out. Most of that is missing in the highlight video.

I saw the full game & WOB deserved the win(instead of the tie) whats missing too is WOB's famed flank attack. Svenja Huth suppose to be CGH's replacement, but she's currently injured, Rolfo's back, but taking time to recover.
at least Engen showing more maturity than the more experienced Goessling, who besides keeps making flagant fouls, seems to get a lot into her own team mates way.
we'll see if the WOB coach has enough faith in Egnen to start her at the thank less, lone DM job for the expected showdown with Lyon

Two veterans who have spent their entire careers in Toppserien are hanging up the boots.

It's been on the cards for a while, but Ingrid Hjelmseth is finally now retiring at 39, not only for Norway but also at club level. She is widely regarded as the second best Norwegian goalkeeper of all-time behind Bente Nordby. Being injured in the season run-in and relegated with Stabæk wasn't an ideal ending to a successful career, but she'll get over it. Hjelmseth made 406 competitive league and cup club appearances in Norway. She made her Toppserien debut back in 1999. Hjelmseth played for Trondheims-Ørn between 1999 and 2006 and for Stabæk between 2007 and 2019. She won Toppserien five times (2000, 2001, 2003, 2010, 2013) and the NM Cup six times (1999, 2001, 2002, 2011, 2012, 2013).

Hjelmseth won 138 caps for Norway from her debut in 2003. Her best tournament was probably Euro 2013 when Norway lost to Germany in the final. She has plenty to fall back on after football including a career in engineering.

Gry Tofte Ims also retired now - at the age of 33. The central midfielder spent the entire career at Klepp and made her senior debut in 2003. She played a total of 330 competitive club matches and scored 92 goals. A major club title eluded her unfortunately. She came closest last year when Klepp finished runners-up to LSK in Toppserien, and also lost a bitter cup semi-final penalty shoot-out at home to Sandviken. Gry Tofte Ims won 48 senior caps for Norway and scored 4 goals. She featured regularly in the national team set-up between 2010 and 2015.
