It won't be what most consider "good form", for him the bar is set very high, unlike others, everyone says he's not a superstar, but want superstar numbers from him, he plays mostly out of position but that's not allowed as an excuse, he's seen more of the bench this season but that's no excuse either, get on the pitch and be spectacular from min 1 or get out of the club, i'll continue to repeat, there's only one ball, and he definitely won't see as much of it as Vin and Kylian do, just like he didn't see as much of it as Vin and Benz did, IMO he fits right where he's supposed to and has been better at RW than any player for Madrid since Figo not named Gareth Bale in terms of scoring goals but it is what it is, all i know is ... he can play
No one wants superstar numbers from him seeing him at RM for 6 seasons now. Criticism came after he went goalless for 30 games like Mariano while starting a good chunk of them unlike square footed Mariano. Majority here supported Rodrygo when he'd score 15 goals per season in all competitions because he tends to show up in big games. Just need him to reach a similar level as his peak and never hit the lows of last 10 months.
Reckon 4-3-3 with Fede as RB until Trent/Carva are back. Camavinga will replace Arda in midfield alongside Jude and Tcho. Rodrygo at RW both Xabi and player has accepted it seems.
I've been saying this: while Rodrygo may be a natural left winger, he's not going to play there. The right side is our weak link, and he's been one of the best right-sided attackers in the world for several seasons. All he needs to do is embrace his role on the right again, get consistent playing time, and he'll return to his form. He isn't going to forget how to play on the right after moving away from there. Last season, I wrote that Beatles was mainly about Lennon and McCartney. Harrison was a talent song-writer of his own right. Rodrygo needs to accept that he is the Ringo Starr of this attack-line. Being Ringo Starr is still a member of the Beatles, and respected by many music fans. This season, I know that our attack-line is very different. VJ is no longer Lennon or McCartney. His issue is beyond Rodrygo's problem,, I think.
But we've already seen this movie before. Many, many times. I don't expect him to become the best attacker, I just hope he doesn't have many games which he was invisible.
Needs to be sold while he still has value, together with his Brazilian buddy, and use the money to make a run at Haaland, Osimhen or whoever it is to have that #9 presence were desperately missing. That ginger kid from Castilla looks a proper left footed right winger to rotate with Mastantuono and Valverde coming in as backup option on occasions. You can't keep paying someone 17 million a season to have this role. Nobody can hate Rodrygo because he is a good guy, contributed to success in the past, and he is smooth and aesthetically pleasing to watch. But fact is that after 6-7 years at the club, he was expected to develop more than this. He might still be able to do it, but not here. Even today if it wasn't for the goal he did pretty much nothing.
I'm not expecting him to be the best attacker ether. Just hoping this is the start of him contributing more.
Nah man... we need to bench him so Franco can go out there and do what Rodrygo did minus the scoring, assisting and not turning over the ball every 2 touches
Hmm I don’t even think the issue was Franco over Rodrygo. I think anyone would agree Rodrygo being an established should have been a starter. It seems to be more about Rodrygo and the right wing position. When he’s played, he has mostly been on the left wing. Even with Franco out, he wasn’t immediately starting. so maybe he is open to playing right wing now (based on what was reported earlier in the season to him wanting to play LW) the Franco situation has been more him vs playing the duo of Arda and Jude
I agree it doesn't make any sense to bench Rodrygo for Franco, just not the same level of players and Franco have not shown anything that gets him to the team before Rodrygo. However, I would bench Vini for Rodrygo in a heartbeat, or call it, rotation mode and Vini can't handle that, he just need to play much better when it's his rotation. but I'm just day dreaming here... Alonso will sign as the head coach of Barca before Vini gets benched again in this club...
Now that Vinicius is untouchable on the LW, Rodrygo has pivoted away from refusing to play as the RW because he knows he won’t get a sniff on the left over Vinicius.
Then your eyes are closed because you're not seeing the trend of some of the people shitting on him recently. It's why I highlight Franco in comparison Very untrue. They are playing the same role. They both provide workrate from the wing. Just one turns over the ball after every two touches and gets forgiven for not being able to score or assist.
Up to recent though, it was clear that Rodrygo played on the lw. He started when Vini rested. He subbed in for Vini Franco was rotating with Arda or Jude depending on who was the right wing obviously if the whole Rodrygo is not a right winger dumb dilemma is over, he should start. but id start Franco over starting both Jude and Arda as we lose a lot of workrate there
I think Franco's future is in midfield. The reality is I wouldn't just throw him there his first year. Being a backup RW works at the moment. My only issue is the hypocrisy of those on RMBS. Player X does the same as Player Y. Yet they will burn player Y at the stake and praise Player X to high heavens.
Franco is the future, but we need to focus on the present. While Rodrygo may not be our ideal option on the right wing, he has played a crucial role over the past six seasons and helped us achieve a lot. If he can get back to his old self, the team will improve. That said, I can see Pérez making the decision to sell him next season. Looking ahead, I believe Nicolás Paz will get his chance on the right. With Güler and Bellingham occupying the attacking midfield roles, it’s unlikely he’ll play centrally. However, his strong left foot makes him an interesting option as an inverted right-sided attacker. Franco has a similar profile. While he’s naturally an attacking midfielder, the squad is already stacked in that area. And I don't see Perez buying a wide right attacker. That will be ideal.
Franco is reportedly going to have a chronic injury. No future should be built around any player with a chronic injury.
Let's give him some time. Besides, I did not say that we will build arrive our future around him. I just said that he is the future, which meant that he isn't ready.
What injury ? Sounds like you are a bit harsh to be honest. As for Rodrygo, Xabi was cute with starting other players ahead of him on on the right side and none of them were better then Rodrygo. In my eyes only one of Arda and Jude should start with Vini and Rodrygo on the wings. He's one of our forwards that is WILLING to sacrifice, god forbid.
In a perfect scenario Vinicius accepts playing on the right, Rodrygo goes to the left and Jude/Rodrygo can take turns getting onto crosses from Vinicius right foot.
To be honest he does nothing to stabilize the game and give it the necessary flow, hes become just another one of the bailout soloists in the attack of this team, but at least hes clearly very motivated for that only probably rightfully rewarded with a starting position right now. Funny thing is last year we realized that Mbappe-Vinicius-Bellingham-Rodrygo just doesn't work, and this year we're back to it, with lightweight Arda added to the mix. Slowly losing faith with Xabi tbh.
